Tonight I found one of the new 3W LED flashlights that have recently hit the market. It's sold by Sportsman's Warehouse (SW hereafter) under their name for $40. It's uses 2 CR123 cells and the packaging claims a 75 lumen output from its 3W Luxeon LED. The tailcap switch is a two stage clicker with full output on the first click and an unknown low output on the second click. I purchased this light as a potential replacement for my SureFire 6P so the tailcap operation with max output first and only one low output mode was desireable for my needs. Shining the beams side by side the SW light out powers the 6P to that point that the claimed 75 lumens looks to be accurate. The SW light features a textured reflector that provides a smooth spot free beam. It has a tighter focus with slightly less corona width than the 6P. On size the SW light is closer in diameter to my E1e. It also features a black metal belt clip, green anodizing, and an extended bezel with four scalloped cuts reminiscent of the E2d which it's probably marketed against. Overall this light looks like it has great potential at $40. It's Sportsman's Warehouse Item #52982.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Will check it out. With the prices on high quality and high output LEDs coming down radically and the market heavy with participants, now is the time to get rid of all the old or at least most of the ineffecient incandescents.

This time of year in FL it's time to think about beating the hurricane season rush (or updating the zombie bug out bag  ) and stocking up or replenishing the battery supply. I have also made this the year to replace cheap plastic incandescent flashlights.

While making the weekly trip to Wally to see what ammunition is in stock and make a buy I found a couple of lights I liked.

A Dorcy 1 Watt Luxeon similar to the one in the photo. 3 AAA.

Price....an astounding $18.83

Also an Energizer 6 LED spot/flood headlight for handsfree use.

Both white and red LEDs. Nice adjustability too. It too was under $20.

DAdams,

I used a similar Energizer headlamp (mine had 2 white & 1 red LEDs) as a USAF comm/electronics maintainer in Iraq (on night shift) for a little over 4 months. It saw moderate use and I never replaced the batteries. It's a great little light for under $20.

I also picked up a similar Dorcy recently at Wally World, with a tailcap switch, for a similar price. The LED is a bit off center and the reflector doesn't produce a smooth spot-free beam like the SW light and my SureFires do. However, it's still plenty bright, I like that it uses AAA batteries, and for $20 it's not a bad deal. Compared to $10 plastic body incandescents and similarly priced mag lites it's a real bargain.

Let us know how your version of the Dorcy light turns out.
