I bought a new Ruger SR9 this morning. Came home took it apart cleaned it up and headed out to shoot it. I put 50 Mag Techs and 50 reloads thru it. Not even a studder. This gun seems to recoil less than the other 9mms that I own and is really comfortable to shoot. I think its a keeper. I bought the green and black. Wasn't my first choice of finish, but it kinda grows on ya. Also field strips easy.

Totally bulletproof pistol, Congrats for a good choice!

I didn't know they could be had in an OD/green and black - thought all were silver slides with black frames. Gonna' have to go and study on that because I saw a Walther P99 in their OD frame version and was tempted to buy it on looks alone.

I bought one on 8-30 for 391.00 plus tax at a show. It has about 520 rds through it so far. I'm new to hand guns but it seems fine to me. I don't particularly like the trigger travel and feel. A friend who shoots a Sig P239 and a CZ 75 shot a few rds through it yesterday and says the trigger feels pretty good to him.

A funny thing about mine is that is has an old SN(less than 30,000)but has the newer(2 blades visible)trigger. I bought it as a NIB gun and did the ATF form. It seems it should have the old-style trigger:did the dealer send it in for the mods? I notified Ruger via phone msg and e-mail as well as sending in the owner's post card.

I really like the ergonomics of these guns, but have heard the trigger pull is an issue. Have they done anything to resolve this? Can it be improved with some smithing?

John

They improve the trigger (see the recall thread) when the older ones are sent in for the safety recall. The newer ones(330-30,000 and higher)must have the improved stuff in them from the factory.

Hello Swiftak,

I recently put a Hogue Handall on my SR9 and the gun now feels just wonderful! Completely different, but very nice. Before, it was sleek and slick. Now it feels huge and solid--like a Sig 226 or Beretta FS92 only much lighter. The actual size is barely a smidgen bigger, but in just the right places. Next up is a LaserMax sight to help these aging eyes.

picked up an sr9 a few weeks ago... and i've already decided after 1000 rounds or so, it's the best pistol i've ever owned (ive had glocks, kimbers, sigs, beretta's and a taurus 917), far and away the most accurate and easiest to shoot 9mm, and as good or better than the kimber 1911.
most reliable too, no ftf's, fte's, spits out anything i've feed it (wwb, blazer brass, monarch green box, magtech, 124 & 147 JHP... doesn't seem to care...).
i got mine nib for $425 and it's SN was in the recall range yet it had the new trigger, and after initially being interested in one before the recall i had decided not to get one, however after handling it in the flesh for the first time (it's shockingly slim for holding 17, and very light), after about 5 minutes i bought it on the spot fully knowing the history... (called ruger and a very nice lady ran the SN for me and let me know it had indeed been retrofitted/upgraded before it left the factory and was indeed a 100% new upgraded gun).
the trigger is awesome, i'm glad i never tried the old one since i've heard it could've been a weak point and dissuaded me, however the current one is exceptional for a "safe-action" dao type, and has only gotten better each session/cleaning (i've fired many many different glock's and blows them all away big time, smoother, crisper, shorter reset).
1.5"-2" groups at 15 yards from standing are a breeze.
i'm going to shoot the hell out of it, and if it starts to wear out, which i don't believe will happen for a long time since it's built very well, weather in 2 months or 2 years, i'm going to just go get another one.

I think that was a little high, but there is no sales tax in NH.
I drove a truck over a decade and have noticed something about states with no sales tax.

While some states have no "sales tax", they do have 'income tax' and businesses aren't gonna sell themselves short when tax time comes.

IOW, generally speaking, the higher price in a no-sales-tax state comes out to about the same price with tax in a we-have-sales-tax state.

Well up north the condition of the roads doesn't have alot to do with sales tax. Its called cold weather. Frost heaves. When I'm talking cold weather, I mean cold. Ever lived anyplace where it got to 30 or 40 below? I don't care how much sales tax money you pour into roads. It don't mean squat, Mr truck driver from Texas. But does it really matter as this is a gun forum?

Well, since it has to do with the perceived price of guns, yes it does.

Where do the road comments come in?

I just got a great deal on a SR9. I was having a tough time deciding between it and a M&P9. I think it was a no lose decision but the looks and feel of the SR9 won out. Mines a 330-28xxx which, according to comments on this thread, would make it one that had been involved in the recall. The dealer said it was post recall but he also said that Ruger didn't repair them but just sent replacements. I know that isn't true. The date on the spent round is 8/12/08 which would make it post recall but I don't know if they have to fire the pistol again after it's repaired. It makes no difference to me but I'm just curious to get the facts straight.
I did have to contact Ruger as soon as I got it home. One of the dots on the rear sight was missing half of the white. It's an easy fix but I wanted a new sight. After dealing with Kahrs service a few weeks ago this was a wonderful surprise. A human answered immediately and sent me to service. The lady was sweet and said a new sight will be sent immediately. When asked if they wanted me to return the old piece she said that if they want it back a prepaid mailer will be sent along with the new part. Gotta love it.

Good service can really make you appreciate a manufacturer and pleasant people can really make all that easier even if things don't go right.

I missinterrprited your comments about sales tax and driving . I perceived it to be a blast on roads and lack of maintainance on roads due to lack of money. Sorry. My comment about the price of the gun and no sales tax was only meant to be a comment on the actual price I paid for the gun. Cause I figured in a state with a sales tax, the gun would have cost alot more. I wasnt getting into the politics of taxes.

I have an early SR9 that had barrel peening problems. Ruger sent me a UPS label and I sent it back.

When I got it back it had a new barrel and the trigger/safety upgrade plus an extra magazine at no charge.

It's really a very good pistol in every respect and you can't go wrong with it.

What's the accuracy like on these SR9 Rugers? Are they POA=POI & holding ~3" 5-shot groups @ 25 yards? I like the way they look/feel, if they're Rugers...then they're gonna' run. I just want to know you new owners' opinion on accuracy? Thanks

Just bought myself a new SR9 this morning. Couldn't resist the $369 price tag! Can't wait to hit the range tomorrow and try it out :).

I really like my SR9, but can't say it's my best gun. I always marvel at how good my XD shoots and my CZs are nothing short of fantastic, but for the monet the SR9 is one very good gun.

have been reading post after post after post of shooters coming on board and raving about the SR9. Seems like ruger has gotten this gun right--this time. Great news. The thing aboutt he recall will be long forgotten very soon.

I don't own one but is sure is enticing...
