Can anyone tell me if that new walnut stock that Numerich sells for $127.30 will fit my Iver Johnson M-1 Carbine? The stock that is on it, has some cracks at the tongue of the receiver, however that little rifle has shot over 300 rounds without so much as a hic cup and I kind of like all my rifles to be cosmetically as perfect as possible.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated as usual.

Well after 130 lookers I was certain somebody could answer my question. I do believe I'm gonna have to sit this one out, until I find a military stock at my LGS.

Saw some military carbine stocks on Fleabay for less than 100 but you would have to refinish. Sarco also has had them from time to time-originals and aftermarket copies. Boyds gunstocks also has replica stocks for right around $100. The CMP is another option but they may be reselling Boyds.

Just remember, you will probably have to inlet a new stock to your action--replacement stocks vary in whether you can drop an action in or not. Used older stocks may not have that problem but the wood may have shrunk over time and the stock may need some minor inletting to allow your action to fit the stock.

I thank ya boom, boom, I wasn't quite sure whether everything else was up to specs on the Iver Johnson as to a real military model. I don't have any problem with inletting, as I've done quite a bit in the past. Besides the original stock is birch hardwood, and I do believe walnut would make it look more original.

Knew I had seen something about the Iver Johnson carbine--their Arkansas plant was close to the airbase where I attended drill. Found this website here with a history of the Plainfield and the later Iver Johnson carbine models as well as other mfgs. Also has manuals etc. for download.

Apparently, the IJ cast receiver was reinforced which means some additional inletting in a military stock. The Iver Stocks apparently are not mil-spec.

BTW Just saw a used milsurp carbine stock today on fleabay for about $50 currently. You will often find them listed under vintage rifle stocks or military rifle stocks where the seller does not know what rifle the stock actually goes to.

Thanks folks, I can do a little inletting without any problem, sunray, I'm actually looking for a genuine walnut stock. The one I have on it is walnut stained hardwood, and it is starting to crack right where the tang goes into the stock. I've been shooting very light loads thru it also right at or under 1900 fps.:)
