Thanks for the info. Merry Christmas.

Struck out on finding any 30-30 ammo. I'm not surprised. I will see about getting some dies and supplies as I can find them. I don't load for anything with a large rifle primer so I'm sure that will be my most limiting factor at this point. Time to keep my eyes open now.
It may take a while.
I got caught with a new rifle and no ammo right after Sandy Hook. It took about 6 months to source the stuff I wanted.

I guess it's been sitting for 30 years with no love so what's another 6 months?

I did strip it, clean it and oil it this morning. It feels good now. Much smoother and feels like it should. The internals were clean minus a boat load of dust. It was all very dry. My grandfather was an oiler back in the day and lubricated everything. I was surprised to find it so dry. All is good now it looks like new and operates very smooth and slick.

Feed her jacketed ammo and treat her with kindness. That is a jewell you have there!!

You really think so? My luck is I usually end up with things people don't want. Not that I wouldn't treat it with kindness or respect due to sentimental value. I'm just happy to finally have something that belonged to my grandfather. I cleaned it up good and want to keep it as nice as possible but I do want to occasionally shoot it. I think it would make the old man smile.

An old school Marlin is a treasure. I like both the 35 Rem and the 30-30. You’ll love hunting with that 30-30! I used to be good with iron sights, but I’m aging out and now have to rely on a scope! Drats! It’s H to get old—- but worse not too!!!!!!!
I wish you were closer, I’d sell you a box of 150 grain Remington. But it looks like we are at different ends of the world. Drats again
Anyway enjoy your new rifle!

Thankyou I appreciate it. By the time I can buy or reload ammo for this rifle I might need a scope. I really do look forward to trying it out.

components / powder may be difficult to find but perhaps substitutions can be made.
Here are a couple possible bullet types and Speers charges for the Deep Curls ( which I got from RMR bullets but had to buy 500)

I really appreciate the offers for bullets and brass. Seriously I think it's awesome but I don't feel right taking things from people especially when there is a scamdemic/shortage going on right now. I am very grateful for the offer and I don't mean to offend either one of you. It made me feel very good that there are still good people out there willing to help others.

I know in good time this will all blow over and things will be available again. Again I really appreciate the offer and please do not be offended as both offers are very much appreciated.

No problem. For me its paying it forward from guys sending me stuff.
A guy from Philly sent me 80 of those deep curls when I couldn't find them.
He just let me know he has accubonds he won't use and those are my win mag load.
I've mailed out SkS stripoers that I had an abundance of and someone needed some.

We're all in this together and a little help every now and then is just cool.
Offer still stands.

27Hand. I seriously appreciate the offer. If you or goldieMi need anything I have I would love to help you guys out. I've only been reloading for a little over a year now. But I do have some things for my normal reloading. I think it's way cool you guys have offered to help and like I have said I definitely want you all to know it is very greatly appreciated.

I don't even own a set of dies yet or have the primers or powder. I will be keeping a lookout for components. I feel very positive this situation will be a thing of the past before we know it. Thankyou guys for being so generous and please do not be offended. Gramps ( that's what my brother and I used to call my grandfather) old 3030 is much better off in my hands than rotting away in my dad's closet. It has already been treated to a nice cleaning and lubrication plan and it will eventually see it's way too a good life that pulls it out of the dark. Might be a short time but it will get used and respected.

Ok. Cool beans,
Good luck.
It'll all come together and soon, you will be flinging lead downrange.
Enjoy the ride.

No Worries. If you change your mind, or find the dies...please let me know.
Good luck with your component hunt and take care of that rifle from Gramps.
Take care.

I have owned several Marlin 30-30s and everyone has been a shooter. And some will say its wrong to scope a lever action but not me. You can only shoot as well as you can see. So I scope mine. I like using either old 4x scopes I come across or Leupold 2x7 variables. I also liked the Nikon Pro-Staff 2x7s but I guess those are no more to be had. IIRC Redfield also has a 2x7 for a reasonable price.

If you decide to go with a peep sight thats whats the two little screw holes are for right where the ejector plugs in to the receiver. You can add the inexpensive Williams 5D peep sight and be set to go. But don't be surprised if you don't need a taller front sight. And your front sight is the one one piece affairs and it may be hard to find a taller front sight for your gun.

You're half a grain over my preferred charge. Funny how everyone likes somewhere between 29 and 30 grains of 3031. It makes me wonder if that's caused by burn rate variance.

30grs of 3031 is sort of a standard 30-30 load. Kind of like how 42grs of IMR 4350 was the go to load for a 243 with a 100gr bullet. But any of the powders in the same burn range as 3031 should work. In one article Brian Pearce liked Reloader 15 for the 30-30 and reported some slightly higher than normal speeds. I have already tried extra power loads in the 30-03 and they ate brass. So now I just stick to original speeds of around 2000fps or less with a 170gr bullet. I have bigger guns if I need more power.

With that being said I've never felt comfortable trying to hotrod a bullet. All of my shooting is done punching paper or ringing steel. I'm trying to get into some predator hunting with some guys from work but I just haven't had a chance yet. All of my shooting range time is spent chasing accuracy. Not that I am some pro but I like to do my best and I'm never in a hurry. I have been known to be very particular about my hand loads and some would probably say it's ocd. If I need more power I will step up to the appropriate platform. The several small block and big block chevrolets I have built are another story. I have built several but never ever one time worried about blowing my hands or face off.

It's only criminal to take a nice lever gun to a bs gunsmith that drills the scope mounts half ass and makes a mess. I had one such less than capable gunsmith mill a slot for a globe site that is no where near square.

You have the right idea Waterboy. I don’t push loads either. But I did try some recommended hotter loads once and that was enough.

The OPs gun should already be D&T for a scope. I have a 39A and I can’t do that gun justice with open sights. A scope is the only way to take full advantage of the accuracy that gun has to offer.

I would never D&T a Waffle Top.

I decided to hit up the local sportsmans warehouse today and managed to get the one and only box of 30-30 win ammo on the shelf maybe even in the local area. It's Hornady interlock 150gr. $28 for 20 rounds. I wish it would have been available yesterday because I went to range this morning. Oh well that's the way she goes. I've got 20 rounds and 20 pieces of brass after that. Rain in the forecast from later today to who knows when.

Glad you found some. It's already raining here in my area of NY and is supposed to freeze, then snow.

O don't date go out for to long just getting over being sick, cause someone came over coughing all over my house and vehicle.

Let is know how it shoots.

My one friend has 2 30-30s and just told me he wants to start reloading for them.
I have 100 cases tumbling for him right now.

He has 4064 powder and primers so not sure if he needs any bullets.
