I have a Ruger gp-100 that I want to build some 38-44 loads for. The GP is 38 spl only. So a few questions, soft lead with a gas check or hard cast lead bullets. I see some bullets with two crimp grooves one for 38 and one for 357.If I use some of these and load it in the lower groove would it be to long for my other 38 spl? I've been using Universal clays and Bullseye so I should use a slower powder like 2400 which I've been wanting to try for my 45 colt anyway.
I've been looking for a S&W 38-44 for sometime and can't seem to find one locally. So I thought the gp-100 could be a poor man's 38-44.
So what bullets and powders are ya'll using? I see 158 gr to 173 gr bullets are these the norm? Any info will be helpful, thanks.
