Hello all, started loading for the 500 mag with h110, not bad but was wondering if anybody has another powder thay perfer to use. Loading hornady 350gr XTP to oal of 2.00
are you looking for more mild loads? or more speed? i have used blue dot, h110 1680 and 300-mp in mine, all work, and plenty others do as well, just depends on what you are after. H110 is a pretty terrific powder for the 500 mag. I started using 300-mp when things were scarce and all you could find on the shelves were brand new stuff no one knew anything about and I assume afraid to try. I bought a bunch of it then and it has done everything H110 does.
Not looking for anything particular, just trying to see what others are using. Like i said im new to the 500 and want to just get a feel for what powders others like in it.
H110 is pretty much the gold standard in that one, and all I've loaded it with. Books list a lot of different powders, but out of all of them, the only other one I may try would be IMR4227.
I have used these powders with 350gr Hornady XTP across the chronograph
Accurate #9 up to 1550fps
Alliant 2400 up to 1600fps
IMR4227 up to 1600fps
Power Pro 300-MP up to 1675fps
