I am new to ar rifles and i am in need of some words of wisdom from some experienced ar 15 guru's. I am wanting a 6.8 spc for hunting purposes and playing around. No need to be able to castrate a fly at 200 yards sense i always try to stay within 100 yards.accuracy doesnt need to be like a prairie dog gun. Just trying to get by as cheap as i can.ya know. I seen where bison armory has the 6.8 upper for as cheap as $386 .i seen gunbroker seling it says (complete ar 15 lower) for $129. Can i buy the bison armory upper and the lower off gunbroker pop them together and have a 6.8 spc ar15 for $515 plus shipping of coarse or do i have to buy a bunch of other parts to make the rifle?

Yea the upper for $374 does not have the Bolt, bolt carrier or charging handle. Those will up your price by another $150-200.

Yeah, that might not include bolt assembly...but if so thats a great deal. Bison Arms makes good stuff too.
Check out jsesurplus.com, they have great prices on completed upper assemblies in all calibers. Also have the lowers too at a great price. Their parts are top quality and every barrel I've gotten from them has been very accurate. They sell, Wilson, Yankee Hill, and E. R. Shaw barrels. All are good and reasonably priced. Good luck!

The bolt carrier group is what moves back and forth chambering new rounds and ejecting spent casings among other things. A fairly important part of any AR.

The bolt carrier group houses the bolt and the firing pin. You will need one in order to fire the weapon along with a charging handle, which works the action. It will have to be a 6.8 bolt as well, a regular AR BCG will not work.

ETA: I think an AR in 6.8 is a great hunting set up, but if this is your first AR, you might consider going 5.56 for it's versatility. You can kill stuff with that too.

Ok so i will need the bolt carrier group for 6.8 . Are these all universal fit alls? Meaning i can just buy one brand or the other and it would fit rite in? What about a charging handle? What charging handle do i have to have for 6.8?

You can contact Bison Armory here:

Most likely Ben will answer the phone and can sort everything out for his products. They offer complete uppers with choice of components too.

The lower receiver portion is the same for all AR-15 rifles. For the 6.8, the barrel is different and the bolt portion of the bolt carrier (the guts inside the upper) is larger to accommodate the larger round.
