Well, I wasnt going to buy any new guns this year but a trade for an almost new DW Valkyrie CCO 9mm fell into my lap. So after some haggling, my Sig 229 went on its merry way and I recieved this new (to me) Dan Wesson.
I'm a pretty big fan of 1911s in general and Dan Wessons in particular, and have always wanted a) a CCO style 1911 and b) a 1911 in 9mm (mine are all .45 or 10mm), so this one killed two birds with one stone.
Despite being used, the gun looked nearly unfired. Fit and finish are good, and what I'd expect. Trigger is good, but not quite as nice as my Valor. Front sight is much whiter than the one on my Valor, really helped me find it quicker, I'm happy with that.
Wandered to the range and burned off 500 or so rounds of mixed 147 grain handloads, Federal HST and Rem Golden Saber, plus some 124 grain handloads that were choking my fathers Wilson CQB.
No failures, ran perfect. Accuracy was about as good as I can manage, I had a decent but not great day (I could tell I was a bit shaky). I haven't spent very much time on a 1911 lately as I had been shooting my 226 SAO nearly exclusively since Sept and the 1911 trigger did take some getting used to again.
(8 rounds offhand at 12 yards, pretty typical for me today. 147 grain HST standard pressure)
I also ran a number of speed drills, managed two successful Triple Nickle drills out of 5 attempts, including one dastardly 5.2 seconds with slight mag change bobble. So it point shoots both fast and accurate up close.
I like it well enough it will certainly take over summer carry duty from my 226 SAO, might even take over full time (unless I go to Milwaukee, need my 18 round mags there )
Overall I'm very happy with my new aquisition!
