My friend at the LGS teased me when I picked it up. He said that his new slogan for me was, "You're wasting money if you don't buy it."

I already had four other 40 caliber service pistols, but I really like my P90 (45acp) and I managed to win this one for a $190 bid on Gunbroker. On the one hand, I really didn't need another 40 caliber service pistol. On the other hand... $190!!!

It's been shot some. The finish on the slide is worn in places, and you can tell by the rails and outside of the barrel that it's seen a good many rounds. The trigger pull is long but smooth. It fits my hand well and I like the sights. I won't get to shoot it until Wednesday. I'm expecting it to be as reliable as all of my other Rugers. I'm pretty sure that this is Ruger number ten for me, and I like them all.

Where should I look for a spare magazine? Midway had a Pro-Mag, but my experience with Pro-Mags has not been positive. Also, if anyone else has a P94, I'd be grateful for insight as to what ammo it likes best and any other details you could share with me.

And, of course, a picture:

I have one I've had since about 1999 or so. It is reliable as they come. There are other pistols that are easier for me to shoot well but I keep it because it & an old Dan Wesson revolver were what I had when I got serious about learning to shoot a handgun. I do better with a Hogue grip on mine than the stock grips. To be honest my biggest dislike with mine is the slide mounted safety. I wish I had been knowledgeable enough when I got it to get the decock only version. I am rambling though I am sure if you own a P90 you already know the good & bad about the Ruger P-series.

From watching videos, it seems like there was more than one version of the P94. Not only did they come in 9mm and 40 caliber, it also seems like the internals might have varied a little bit over time. I gave it a thorough cleaning today, and it looks less worn on the inside now that it's cleaned up. It probably has a whole lot of miles left in it. I'm looking forward to shooting it this week. I'll post a short range report after I do. I could post a second report after I wear it out from shooting it... uh, don't hold your breath waiting for that one. :)

I never could get comfortable with the Ruger P series autos. Probably a combination of my small hands and their ergonomics but I did think they were built like a tank and would probably last forever with few if any worn out parts or repairs required. Let us know how it goes at the range.

I had to have mine sent back to Ruger for FTF issues and they replaced the entire slide! Ran perfectly after that. If you like the P90, you will like the 94. A reliable, though a bit unrefined, pistol. It was the only .40 I've ever owned, and was one of the most accurate pistols I've ever shot.

Ugh, might take some scouring the interweb to find mags, doe. I will look through the giant bucket of used mags at my LGS and PM you if they have any.

I bought a P94 in stainless a while back. Very reliable pistol. IIRC I paid $360 for it at a private sale. I got the Hogue wraparound grip for it.

The gun was practically new, maybe a couple of hundred rounds through it as far as I can tell.

It's very accurate and the trigger is nice. It didn't shoot my FiL's horrible batch of reloads very well (I don't know why he chose to buy pointy semi-wadcutter bullets for 40 caliber), but I don't blame it. I'll shoot some factory ammo out of it next time. I found a brand-new magazine at Bud's for $26.

That’s not wear. That’s patina and patina is a good thing. They are overbuilt tanks. You done proud.
