Hi All
Finally found the closest to a "grail" gun I have desired. I thought it was a 3" Speed Six, but was corrected on the RugerNet, it is actually only 2 3/4". Regardless I finally have one and it is all I imagined. Balances well, shoots well, seems hardly used. Put the Pacs on it for use as they seem to fit me better than the wood. Will post some more pics when I resolve my quirks with getting them from photobucket to here.

Man, that is just what I have been looking for. I have found some 4" ones, but I already have a 4". I want a shorter barrelled one just like that one.

Nice find.

...Congrats...so far, I only have two sets of those very grips, empty in the drawer...waiting for the exact gun you have and the 4" mate to it...wonderful revolvers...you've got a 3-generation gun, there!!!

Couple more Pics

Here are a couple more pictures of the Speed Six as I am slowly unravelling photobucket again. She was apparently birthed about 1980. Will have mostly .38+p due to my arthritc hands. Action is smooth. Hope you enjoy. Thought she deserved the purple velvet.

Beautiful gun

I have one I bought many years ago and it is still one of my favorite revolvers. Shoot it and enjoy .

Wow 6 responses not counting mine in less than 24 hours!! :D. Anybody else with Security/Service/Speed Six variations they would like to share please feel free to contribute. I am sure others and I would like to see your iteration of grip/barrel length/coloring/form of carry for this unique revolver.

I found my Speed three years ago or so and it's been my primary CCW since then. I love the way it shoots. I have Tyler T-Grips for it.

No photos but I own 2 Speed Sixes. Take that as an indication of what I think of them.

Congrats on the new revolver Ted; it's a beauty (as are all the other stainless Sixes that have been posted:) )

These look cool. I only have one ruger. I am not sure what model it is, made in late 60's, .22 with LR cylinder and magnum cylinder, single action, blue, 6 inch barrel, 9 shot, little door you have to turn out to load. I like it a lot.

But I do have a Smith model 60 in .357 with 3 inch barrel. How does this compare to these rugers for size?
thanks,

The Ruger is supposed by many to be inferior to S&Ws where actions are concerned, it's not entirely true. By removing burrs from the hammer and trigger, and by lessening the power of the mainspring, you can end up wirh a strong, powerfully built .357 that you'll never part with.

One of the best ways to slick them up is to dry fire the daylights out of them.

Congratulations! I looked look and hard for a 4" Speed Six, for which I had already obtained a factory spurless hammer. I found one, about 2006 or 2007. It was a bit beat up, but its action was quite nice, which is what counts, and it is my current beater sixgun. Not that I abuse it, of course, but if it is already a bit scratched, I feel better taking it when rough and tumble might happen.

That is the old conventional wisdom, but the secret about these Sixes is they get better with age. The actions just keep getting smoother and smoother. Even ten years ago the Sixes were regarded as one step above a Taurus by a lot of sellers around here. I could get them for $150 to $200 tops. That's really been changing lately, and folks aren't nearly as willing to part with them.

I found a stainless that had been Mag-Na-Ported, and had the action tuned, a few months back. Nice revolver.

My favorite Speed-Six!

Here is my favorite Speed-Six. It is the 3-inch heavy barrel model that is still NIB! I can't decide whether to shoot this Speed-Six-or, not? I love this gun!:D:

Slick6,

If you don't, the person who gets it after you die will shoot it. Life is too short to not shoot these guns!

Ban all safe queens!

Here's another one, started as a 4" Security Six. I swapped out a 2 3/4" barrel, bobbed the hammer, round butted to a Speed Six profile, light "melt" treatement and parkerizing to finish it off. It gets carried a lot:
