New Toy!!!

My parents bought me a S&W Md. 17 for Christmas - my first revolver, and this thing is NICE! :) It's so smooth and well made, even compared to nice autos (Sig's and the like).

On a side note I am kind of curious when it was made... I'm told that production stopped in the 80's. The SN is AYM6xxx. Is there a lookup on the internet or something?

Have a great holiday,

;)

Nick

Here's a link to the S&W forum: http://www.smith-wessonforum.com

Post your serial # in the 1945 section to present and you should have a production date shortly. You may get a answer here also as they are a bunch of shooters that are both members of THR and the S&W forum.

By the way the M17 is just a super nice revolver! I don't think you could have did any better or got anything that will bring more enjoyment!

Nice piece Nick ... and hey - wasn't it a short time ago you posted another ''New Toy'' thread? Seems like your collection is getting good input ... excellent news!

Enjoy - I do love older Smiths. :)

I am going to say late 87. Is it a -5 model?

You had better buy a bunch of ammo, you are going to need it.

Enjoy,
Bob

Merry Christmas--that's a beautifully proportioned revolver. Enjoy it.

Wow - it seems to get more and more fun to shoot! To be honest I never really understood the appeal of revolvers, probably because I was never really around them much. Now I see - it's simple, it shoots great, feels great, and is made like a fine swiss watch. :D I think I need another brick of .22 ammo...

Yep, the collection is growing (mmm... 91\30's!!), and with a new source of income to fund my collection, it's not going to be slowing down any time soon. :)

The great people at the smith forum tell me it's a January - June of 1988. And you're right - it is a -5.

Excellent choice for a first revolver - you'll never outgrow a good 17, and it has the added bonus of being a link from your parents.
