If you saw this on FX, you may have enjoyed it as much as I did. The guy who plays the US Marshall, from "Hit man", and "Deadwood", Timothy Olfant, seems to be schooled on firearms a bit more than the average actor. So far he has used a sig, glock, and a couple other pistols I missed. The gunfights happen fast and are fairly realistic IMO. Last night’s episode showed how he maintained distance between two armed men using his training to make it harder for the average person to make a long shot with a pistol. Last week he had an encounter while sitting at a table with a BG, he was forced to draw from a seated position at a restaurant. I like the show, as all shows it's a bit overdone but better than most as far as the shooting sequences go.

It's interesting that most of the shoot-outs have been inspired directly by the action in the Elmore Leonard books/stories the show is based on. The one last night takes place in Sicily in the book and goes through Raylan's whole train of thought on the mobster trying to get within range.
While I enjoy the action, Raylan's also shot about six people in his first few weeks on the job. Not too realistic but goes back to the good old days of the Miami Vice body count.

Its the mine and my wife's new favorite show. I like it cause its a modern day cowboy flick, reminds me of cowboy shows of yesteryear. I agree it gets a bit unbelievable but agree its better than my wife's second favorite show, "Gossip Girl". Sad part is there are parts of Kentucky like that.......

I was thinking the same thing about his body count. Each time a marshal or any law enforcement personnel shot somebody, there would have to be an investigation and time off the job during the investigation. But if that were true of the show, the show would be more like The Hills and focus on his personal life and drama. Talk about boring. I'd rather see him shoot the bad guy every week. Much more exciting.

It seems like a fairly entertaining show. I only saw the premier, however, and was a little disappointed when I saw the bad guy fire an AT4 with his associate standing directly behind him and no ill-effects.
It's a pretty good show. It hasn't captivated me yet, but I've seen every episode and will keep watching them. I think he's killed someone every episode.
Another GREAT show which I feel does pretty well keeping things realistic is Southland on TNT. Sadly yesterday was the finale so it'll be a while till that one is on again.

It's a good show, and keeps it more realistic than then average program. As BIGBOY^^ said SOUTHLAND also does a pretty good job, seems they hired a bunch of cops to give advice on how realistic the scenes are.
Justified is my current favorite TV show. They do need to taper off the shootings a bit though, I'm guessing your average deputy U.S. Marshall doesn't kill one or two people a week.
Eastern Kentucky is a great setting for the series. I lived there once. Beautiful country, great people.

I honestly love this show, its entertaining and i always enjoy a "modern western". Its a bit over the top, but name a show thats not for the sake of entertainment.

I know a movie, Collateral. Pretty much no nonsense.
I just love Elmore Leonard's books. I even downloaded the short story that was used as the first episode onto my Kindle. I couldn't believe there was anything of his that I hadn't read. So far I've liked the show, but I am wondering how long the premise will hold up? Nothing against Leonard or his characters, but I've never seen an adaptation like this that didn't suffer in the long term. And, Leonard's writing style is unique I wonder if the staff writers that grind this stuff out can effectively mimic week in week out.
In the meantime I will say this, I don't know any US Marshalls, but I've know 2 Texas Rangers, and met a 3rd. All part of an investigation I was involved with tangentially years ago. I have no idea what their body count. I doubt their body count is like Raylan's, but I also don't doubt that it's because the bad guys take one look at these LEOs and just KNOW that if they want to be on this side of the dirt come tomorrow they'd better behave. At least that's what they realize if they have single self preservation cell in their little brains. Those men scared me, and I was very happy they were on the right side.

I do believe it was a compact 1911 he toasted the second guy with in the first episode.

Love Timothy Olyphant's characters. He was great in The Crazies, as well.

It's just TV & better than most of the crap out there now (History, TLC, Discovery, Military Channel, NatGeo notwithstanding). It's fun.
