I shot the new to me woods gun today to get scope sighted in and see what ammo it prefers. By "woods gun" I mean I have a "woods walk" with targets set up for friends and family to hike though our property and shoot various targets. I had planned to post the selection of guns available but I will do that in another post along w trail shots. Anyway, back to this gun. I wanted a bolt action. All the bolts I own are 40x varieties. I limit the guns on the walk to 22/22wmr. My heavy barreled 40x 22 is too much to lug though the woods. Looking into sporters. As I am saving for a rather pricy Mauser (details later) the clip fed sporters were too much. This single shot safe queen popped up(anyone need a sporter box? Lol) grabbed it as it had a 1 in price as the first #! Mounted an illuminated Swarovski and broke it in today. Tried 5 ammo types, 5 rounds each at 100.
Eley, just like its big brother in a heavy barrel. I prob can tighten it up as it breaks in and put it on my viper rest but not a bad start.

First group upper right, eley was shooting low ( was shooting cci before that) believe it or not I was aiming at the target 4" higher and it hit this one. Second group a bit better but even stil the first is less than dime at 100

Good enough for popping clays in the woods! Wish I hadn't pulled that shot right, the other 4 were bungholed at 100

Thank u, I just hold it and pull trigger, more the gun than me!
The cci, fed match and win x were all about the same. 0.75" -1" or so. The eley was head and shoulder above those ( in this gun) but dropped 4" more than the others

NICE,Great combo for woodsbumming

Seem everytime I limit myself to the 22's,I see a load of hogs. When I take the308 I see birds and such. Now I carry a Ruger 22/45 on my hip and a larger rifle, then I see nothing.:fire: hahaha.GOING TO SELL THAT REMINGTON 770 308 JUST FOR THAT REASON,so I can go back to a 22 rile

Eley - some sort of expensive 22 ammo that shoots well in my 2 40x's. I font know too much about it. Expensive is relative these days as cheap stuff isn't cheap anymore

One very nice looking and accurate rifle. I never had much success, accuracy-wise, with various types of Eley ammo in any of my .22s, both rifles and handguns. Doesn't help matters much that it's so expensive as well. Have always done very well with CCI MiniMags and Wolf Match Target.

I wish I had better success with other brands. I have a few boxes of eley but in these times, hard for me to find. I have a bunch of cci as I own a sig mosquito which is quite ammo cranky ( tho I love the gun.)
Thx for comments guys.
