Hi All,

I got a bag of military .223 brass the other day with the crimped primers. Isn't there a special tool or die for removing these? I was thinking that I used a standard die to punch out the primer but then had to use another hand too to scrape out each primer hole? is this correct?

Thx!

You'll need a primer pocket swager to remove the crimps or you can go to the hardware store and get a reamer that will fit the pocket.

You can chuck a reamer up in a cordless drill and go to town on the brass, just don't over do it. You only need to remove the crimps, any more then that and you'll ruin the brass.

Hi 50,

Thanks for the reply. I have found this device;

RCBS Priming pocket swagger

From what I can tell, this looks like it will do the trick. I may try the reamer route though, especially if it may be a little faster.

Thanks for your help!

Jeff

I always cut them out rather than swage (I use my case neck deburring tool chucked into a cordless drill).
