Mountain gun is an apt name. That light barrel is what's needed when hiking in the mountains. I tried carrying an m58 .41 in Colorado - whew!

That's a beauty you have there - congratulations.

Nice gun.
I have a 629-6 (lock/MIM gun) and a couple 629-4's MG's (last of the pre MIM/no lock guns).
All of them had cylinder throats that pin gauged around .427", too tight and wouldn't shoot cast bullets for crap. I finished reamed them to .4315" with a Manson reamer and the problem was solved.
I'm curious if your revolver has this problem. Let us know how it shoots with cast bullets.

Excellent purchase. Never had a .44 mag, .357 is the largest I've gone in a revolver (have .45 auto of course for the car gun). Just picked up a Ruger GP 100 .357 4" stainless as the hunting sidearm/woods carry. Can't wait to shoot it.
