I am a bit excited! My second 1911 is on the way. I read up quite a bit and decided on getting the more plain jane stainless steel 5 inch barreled Remington R1S 45 acp 1911 for home defense and target practice. Seems to be quite well made for the money. Hard to find any negative comments on it.
I have a Colt Defender for carry and I am duplicating the grips I have on it with the R1S.
I don't shoot 45 auto a whole lot but plan to do some range practice with the larger one. That may help me improve a little on the shorter Defender.
The grips I have on the defender have held up well carrying around and they took a few light whacks and still look like new. They are quite rough and leave honeycomb impressions on my hand but still are not at all uncomfortable.
No way I'll have any problem hanging onto the pistols with these.

I ordered McCormicks shooting star 8 rd mags since I did read some on Remingtons mags sometimes having problems near the last couple cartridges. Not all but some.
Seemed to be the only real issue except people getting snipped by the hammer & grip safety. I'll just hold it in a way to prevent that.

145 views and nobody can give me an atta boy?

Congrats! My R1 Enhanced had a few issues now and then, maybe 2 out of 50 failed to feed correctly. So I tried Chip McCormick Power Mags and they issues have stopped. They might have stopped anyway after breakin, but the CM mags are clearly made to a higher standard. Good luck with yours.

Thanks guys. I feel better now. The R1S shows up at the gun shop on Friday. A report will follow with images.

Arrived

Got it today, smooth as a baby's behind and not a scratch or nick. I have not shot it yet but already changed the grips around. I'll give a range and performance report when I get out to give it a run.

Had it out today freehand and knocking an orange square soft plastic target around at the quarry at 20-25 yds. I thought it would shoot low from what I have read but this one seems right on. Cycled and fed nicely and easy to handle. A bench report will include target images next time I get out.
