I decided to buy a stainless 1911-type .45 and was shopping at Cabelas, where I could handle and test the triggers of several models. The one I picked had the best trigger and excellent exterior finish, the Rem 1911 R1S.

Shooting it proved very nice, comparing favorably with my Colt National Match, which I don't carry or keep in the vehicle, being a family heirloom, having been passed to me on the death of my B.I.L..

The R1S shot much better than the S&W .45 M&P Stainless, which, because it's a lighter piece, jumped around quite a bit more.

The R1S has a sear-spring problem and was sent to Remington for warrantee repair, through Cabelas, but it's been several weeks and it's not back yet. Hopefully, it's neither lost nor stolen in the mail, because that baby has/had a very nice trigger and I love the way it handles ball ammo. IMG_1911 Alt .JPG

I have one. great gun. very accurate. got it on sale while back. so affordable couldnt pass it up with the rebate active back then.

only issue is it doesnt feed well on chip mccormick railed mags. feeds great on it's own mags and not railed chip and wilson mags and even junk mags that my colts and sa choke on or wont hold slide back when empty.

when I say doesnt feed well on chips railed I should say bullet, 230 gr fmj round nose, almost feeds but I have to bump slide shut every few rounds. if I hold it very tight and solid with zero movement it will feed better from those mags.

Glad to get such great comments about the R1s. I'd never had them in my crosshairs until handling mine at Cabelas. The trigger on mine is (or was, depending on what the factory has done to it recently) even better than the Colt National Match I have, which I had thought was perfect.

Hope it comes back from the factory soon, since it's been gone over 2 months...sent by Cabelas for me. Remington said it's fixed and return-shipped to Cabelas as of 4/24/2020. (Seventeen days and counting.) I hope the trigger is as good as it was when bought.

UPDATE: Received the R1S at Cabelas yesterday. It's working great and I shot about 50 rounds with it at the club range today. Trigger is still great and it didn't show any signs of the problem it had. I shot it about as well as my National Match, though I re-installed the Pachmayr grips. I'll install the extended trigger soon...just didn't want to take it apart before shooting it as it came from the Remington repair shop.

I have owned an R1S Enhanced model for several years. I picked it up on a whim when Remington was offering a rebate offer. I have been super pleased with it’s excellent trigger and accuracy. My gun was built before the move from Ilion, NY to Huntsville, AL.

Very nice! I bought/installed an extended trigger and Pachmayr Grips but removed before sending it to Remington for repair.

Shooting results - Repaired Rem 1911 R1S...after factory repair of sear malfunction. I'm really rusty, but when I did my part, the pistol performed like a champ and was well-zeroed. I look forward to really making it "sing" when I stop "anticipating" the shot and "grabbing it off".

I'm glad i'm not the only one who cannot shoot 1 ragged hole.

While I don't have a stainless one (Yet). I have this blued carry model. It would be near perfect in my book if it was matte stainless with polished slide serrations for a bit of subtle contrast.
(The safety is on in this pic because I took it off my hip to post this.) She's my weekend carry piece for when I WANT people to know I'm carrying.

It's back from Remington/Cabelas and in great shape. Shoots better than I can too.

That's great, but it's a bit more than I care to carry around all day, given the relative peace in my part of the calm state of Maine. If I carry, it's often a stainless .38 S&W hammerless stainless snubbie in a pocket holster. The .45 stainless is to keep in my vehicle, along with an extended spare magazine. It's most likely use will be to dispatch a deer or moose that I couldn't "Dodge", but managed to "GMC". Secondary, is the much less likely, but necessary disposition of a two-legged threat. ;)
