I'm looking at the Stoeger coach gun and wondering about the nickle finish. How well will this hold up over the long, lonog term? That is, will it still look good when the grandchiildren get it?

Some of the older nickle revolvers I have seen have really degraded overtime. This could be due to poorer plating processes, or poor care, I suppose.

I see several people on this board have the nickle gun. Is there anything special to keep it in good shape?

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Wondering the same myself! Is the nickle finish worth the extra associated cost on this particular SXS or any other modern barrel for that matter?

I may be wrong about this but I think most of the older firearms that have degraded and flaking nickle finishes were electro-plated and I believe most, if not all, newer firearms uses an electro-less plating process which is less prone to eventual flaking and cracking. If that is not correct, I hope someone will chime in and elaborate.

Be careful what you use to clean it, specifically Tetra solvents.

My friend used Tetra's solvent to clean his Kahr's barrel (it is nickel plated as well) and it tarnished the entire barrel. It now has black splotches and looks horrible. I'm not sure if any other solvents do this, just double check before you use anything.
