Night sights on Sig Sauer M17 / M18?

OK, I'll say it. The supposedly "luminous" 3-dot night sights on the Sig Sauer M17 or M18 are dim. At first I thought it was a sample defect, but now that I have two of them, I see that it's a design problem. These are utterly useless in low light situations. In fact, the luminous paint on my Berettas is brighter!

Anyone else notice this?

I have a total of 5 Sigs with their night sights. An M17, two M18's, and two P365's. All are dim compared to other night sights I've owned. At first, I didn't like them either, but with use I've decided I like them better. Now when I look at other night sights they seem too much.

My concern is how long will they last. With traditional sights they get dim towards the end of their life. But if this is by design, and if they last 5-6 years like traditional night sights, I'm OK with them.

I can't see the little dots at all unless I let my eyes accommodate to near-total darkness. But then the muzzle flash ruins the accommodation. And obviously if I can't see the sights, I can't see the target either.

I'm thinking of putting dots of reflective white paint over the radium sights.

Have recently purchased a SIG P365 and an M18, both with night sights and yes, they're kind of dim right out of the box. Like member jmr40 I have gradually become accustomed to them and don't have a problem acquiring them right away under less than total darkness conditions.

I guess we have to factor in the shooter's eyesight. I'm 77, and my vision isn't what it used to be. That said, I don't have a problem with the Beretta 3-dot luminous sights, which are just paint. The Sig radium-based dots are completely useless to me.

My M17 stays beside in the bed and I was thinking they're almost too bright, especially the front sight. One thing I do that helps my P365's is use a cotton swab with a little rubbing alcohol to clean the dots periodically.

My M17 is four years old and the sights are still quite bright although the rear is gone thanks to a Romeo1 Pro. I had a front sight go dead on my 365 and they replaced it free of charge.

The SIGLite (tritium) nightsights on my M18, 320 Carry and 320 FS are all bright and clear.

My three 365s (one standard, one m/s, one XL) all have nice X-Ray bright big dot front sights and acceptably bright rear sight dots.

Based on the responses here, some are bright and some are dim. By luck of the draw, I got dim ones. What are the odds that 2 out of 2 would be dim?

None of my Sigs have the factory sights.
Xray3, Siglight or white dot.
Except for the 229 with a Romeo1 and regular suppressor height sights, just 3 white dots that I blacked out with a paint pen.

Most of mine have an orange dot now and just the tritium rear, no colored ring.
Using Trijicon HD/XR, XS RAM and XS big dot.
My 229 .40 has a TFO green front and just a plain black serrated rear blade.
