I am looking at a night vision unit with an illuminator that is an 810nm wavelength LED

At night, is this visable to someone else?

Some of the illuminators can be seen by the naked eye.

The average human eye will respond to wavelengths from about 390 to700 nm.

Depending on the quality of the illluminator, a dull glow may be seen if very close to the illuminator.

What unit are you looking at and what do you plan to use it for? I'm looking at Nightvision gear for coyotes and maybe hog thumping and was interested in what you have planned.

do they make IR illumination that is not able to be seen by humans? I did no think they did.

I know I can see the IR from a TV remote control with an NVD and not with the naked eye.
