I like my new 9mm and my .357, but I can only have one in the nightstand for that "just in case". Assuming you shoot them equally well (I actually might do a bit better in SA with the 9mm) what would you choose?

And the poll: What do you actually have right now, tonight?

no nightstand gun, but 1 of each within easy reach. Too tired to explain why, but it works for me.

Currently have my Witness P in 9mm, 16+1 rounds. I've owned this particular pistol for several years and it has never had a failure.

Where is the semi auto rifle choice?
:D

Mine is a SIG P-225. I have had mine longer than any other handgun I own and have shot it way more. I just feel more comfortable and confident with it than with any other gun. I would be an idiot to use something else at this point.

Let's see.....within 3 feet of the bed on each side is my wifes GP100 .357mag 3" blued revolver.

My side has my Remington 870HD, my 640-1 loaded w/145gr silver tips, my HK USPf OD Green .45ACP w/13 rounds of 230gr JHP(Golden Sabres).

Some nights I'll even put the AR15 w/30rd magazine attached.

You'd think I lived in a gang infested neighborhood, but oh no, we live on 5 acres in the country.

Colt Cobra 38spl with Golden Saber's

And sometimes my Officer's ACP with 230gn HP's.

Sure as heck not gonna put my bullseye pistol there. I can see the headlines now...

'Home owner, competitive shooter, shoots would-be robber through the heart ten times. ER surgeon says the hole in heart was, "just one ragged hole, score 97 with one flier to a lung".' :cuss:

Followup with reporter, "So, was that Timed fire or Rapid fire?"

I have to qualify my vote; my Magnum Carry .357 is in my nightstand... but my Glock 17 is under my pillow... so I really have both.

No handguns. 870 cruiser ready under the bed, Marlin 336, 5 in the tube nearby. If that won't save my bacon, a handgun wouldn't either.

Use what you shoot best. Use something where the caliber starts with 4.

Does that mean my 7.62x54R Mosin M38 is too light? :D That and a loaded 9mm CZ 75 PO1 make up the nightstand setup. The carbine has the plastic tip training ammo - big boom, huge fireball, and a 46gr pill at over 3000FPS should do a number on flesh. Should - never tried it... ;)

I have a semi auto sig p226 2 magazines, loaded with winchester supreme ammo, also my 12 gauge is readily at hand loaded w/ T shot 3 1/2 magnums.
