Can anyone tell me what screw thread the Pietta 1858 Remington nipple is. I am having problems with one of the cylinder threads. I dont think it is crossed but it was stiff when I got the gun and after the first clean I can't get a nipple to screw in more than about half a turn. I have tried all 6 and non will work but they all fit the other 5 chambers.
I would like to get a tap to clear the thread but don't know what it is.
Cheers
Duncan

Hi Duncan - I have just checked on a nipple on my Pietta Rem pattern - it apears to be metric 6mm x 0.75. The std 6mm thread is 6 x 1.0 - so note this is the fine thread version of 6mm.

Hope this will do the trick - one pass of that thru and hopefully you'll be good to go.

This is my Pietta BTW so you know where the nipple came from.

Thanks very much Chris, that's most helpful. I will be seeing a friend on Sunday who has lots of bits and pieces and loves to mess about with tools so he should have one.
It's long range shooting at the club this wekend so will have to wait till the 8th Jan for my next BP outing. Here is a pic of the beast. I need to take a better one when we get some sun!!
Cheers
Duncan

Huh!? How odd! The Pietta "Shooters Revolver", Gain twist barrel and all that of recent vintage here have nickle plated triggerguards and blued/blackend (Not case hardend in color) hammers. At least the four examples i own do not.

What year/ markings does this revolver of yours have please?

Additionally, Duncan, ever need anything from here, just ask, happy to help and ship! (Have great contract with DHL Express)

You are a real gentleman Manyirons, I may ask for your services in the future.
The reason that you don't reccognize the gun is that the guy I got it from took it to pieces, polished and smoothed everything he could, removed all the nickle plating and polished and oiled the wood. He then had the whole thing re-blued and I have to say, it is one beautiful piece to handle and shoots well.
I am not sure how old it is but I think he passed it to me because he hates cleaning it!
He also has a pair of French repro Duling Pistols and a Pedersoli Mang In Graz pistol.

Just as a matter of interest, the Remington currently costs 544 Euros.

I will try and get some pics of his pistols and post them in the New Year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL

Chris, I just talked to my pal and he has the right size taps so he is bringing them tomorrow to a New Years Day party we are going to so I should sort things out by Monday.
Thanks again
Duncan

Excellent Duncan - hopefully that will be a quick and easy fix.

Just as a final check - put the 6 x 0.75 carefully down a good nipple hole to make sure pitch is correct. Once that proved a pass thru the bad one should do the trick.

Happy New Year too :)
