What's the deal witn reformulating Nito 100. I found 3 cans in the lgs yesterday and 2 of them were marked reformulated and not to use as a pistol powder. I had just started to use Nitro as a alternate in my 1911. You know powder of the more desirable kinds is still hard to come by in my neck of the woods. I bought thes one can not so marked. Anyone have any ideas?

All I know is it changed and not recommended for pistol anymore, at least not yet.

I have most of a pound of the old formulation and it's OK stuff. The old stuff is a flake powder and the new stuff is flattened ball.

We unfortunately had to change the manufacturer for Nitro 100 early in 2009.

This was due to factors outside our control.

We thus do not source our Nitro 100 for the EU (Czech Rep) anymore.

It’s now made in the USA by General Dynamics®.

It’s still a double base powder but it’s a flattened spherical (ball) powder instead of the original extruded flake design.

I’m not understanding why the manufacturer didn’t just change the name.

Even if the burn rate remains the same, some of the characteristics would be different when going from a flake powder to a ball powder.

What were they thinking?

Look in accurate_load_data. 3.5 edition There is some Nitro 100NF data available.

SAFE SHOOTING ALWAYS

MR835 IS GONE

3.1 & 3.2 has N-100 data. I did not see any in 3.3, 3.4, or 3.5. Perhaps I overlooked it.

Aha, yes, there is one load in 9MM for a copper bullet for the NF. (New Formulation)

It's now for handguns again.

There was am initial caution/warning re handgun calibers however, that was just a prelim measure because the handgun data will be different. We are in process of developing loads for this powder in handgun calibers.

For the interim we suggest a reduction of - 10% for both the start and maximum loads relative to any old original Nitro100 data.
