No more Glocking ... one man's story

- Never again wonder if the myth of the KB (ka-boom) isn’t really a myth (sorry, Dean)

Now you can wake up every morning and lie to yourself

"My 1911 will never kB!"

Looking back, it seems as though taking my Glock to the range, or carrying it, was sort of like sneaking out to meet Rosie O’Donnell for a night of amour, leaving Halle Berry at home.

if you have halle berry at home, then you MUST invite us over for dinner one night, and soon!

:D

For All You Glock Lovers..

Can you please explain this to me. Why does Glock place a "SAFETY" on the "TRIGGER" while every one else places it away from the trigger? Lets see. "Trigger/SAFETY".. "Safety/TRIGGER". Seems like a "oxymoron" to me, as well as not being too smart! Don't you agree?

The point is that a Glock will not (and can not) go off unless you Pull the trigger. Pulling the trigger disengages the three safties and the gun goes bang (no, not kaboom! :) )

Personally, I love my Glocks. I have the 3.5 connectors in every one of them, and no matter which one I have in my hand I can shoot them equally well.

A buddy of mine once said to me (I think he was quoting someone else), "Beware the man who has only one gun because he probably knows how to shoot it well."

I've got a lot more than one gun, but that's how I feel about my Glocks. They all have similar characteristics (allowing for differences in the grips, etc.) and no matter which I shoot I know what that trigger will feel like.

I have NEVER had a FTE or FTF and I have put TENS of thousands of rounds through my Glocks (not exaggerating). That's proof enough for me.

Cheers,
ChickenHawk

It wasn't that much

Actually, I bought the pictured Glock 23 for $575 from the original owner who had all the work done on it. He had Arotek do the hard chrome, compensating, night sights and extended mag/slide releases. I don't know what it cost him, but I would guess maybe $600. I guess he got tired of it after all the modifications.

I have put maybe 500 rounds through it without a hitch, and bought an unported Glock 23 barrel for $120 since I'd rather not use the compensator. I don't think it recoils enough to bother with a compensator. Now I just have an "air cooled" barrel. But I think the hard chroming improves the appearance of the slide.

Yeah, but you have to MAKE a 1911 kB on purpose. Glocks will do it all by themselves. :neener:

Maybe you should have been shooting in the 70s and you would have seen a fair number of 1911s kb usually using hot 38 supers in competition.

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there. :D

BUT you can do it with factory ammo with Glocks--you don't have to rely hot reloads for spontaneous self-disassembly. :p

Please. And as you well know jc2, you can kB! a 1911 with factory standard pressure ammo as well, as factory ammo is not always what it is supposed to be.

And, this will no doubt be wasted on you kool-aid drinking Browning-cultists, but if I'm going to have a kB!, I'd rather have a kB! with a glock in my hand than with any 1911. Just compare kaboomed 1911 photos with kaboomed glock photos if don't understand I say this.

Since THR is decidedly a very anti-glock board, I think it's appropriate to cite opinion and information from another board that is ostensibly biased in favor of Glocks on the subject of kB!s http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=283479

Well, at least the guy who started this thread sold his Glocks for 1911s, which I can respect, and didn't jump on the "Sig-Sauer Pistols are so much better and more reliable and more accurate than anything else [especially glocks]" bandwagon of snobbery and self-delusion. That would just be intolerable.

Ugly, true, but....

I love my Dan Wessom Patriot. I also love my Python and that big 'o S&W .44. But what is hanging on my hip? Yep, a G-29. It gets wet, (and it has) so what? Drop it in the mud (and it has been), big deal. It goes boom every time and that's what I want to happen if I ever need to take it off my hip in a hurry.

I don't know. I had always assumed that it scored points with the BATF and eased importation of the product into the USA. Kahrs are made in the USA so they don't need a manual safety.

I don't agree with you. The Glock's trigger has a manually deactivated safety, but it's the weapons only manually deactivated safety. The 1911 has three manually deactivated safeties: thumb, grip and trigger. The trigger is the safety. Don't press the trigger and the gun doesn't fire! Sounds like a "safety" to me!

The only thing here that I find to be oxymoronic is that guns have things called "safeties". Guns aren't safe. If they were, they wouldn't be useful.

Ahh...bask in the warm glowering glow of GLOCK HATE! It keeps me warm on this chilly January evening. Down to 14 tonight before windchill!

I'd like to know why every discussion regarding Glocks sinks into the KB abyss!!!

I own four Glocks.
Two, count 'em two G26's, a G36, and a G30.
I ain't never seen a KB of any kind!!!
That said, I carry a Kahr MK9!!
Why?? Because it's smaller than the G26!!
For me, small is good!!
My wife, on the other hand, does carry the G26!!
She's DAMN good with too!! ;)

I don't see SIG or Beretta fans get worked up like Glock acolytes. It's not like someone is trash talking your dog. :neener:

Face it - Glock folks do seem to riot on the boards whenever someone says anything unflattering about Glocks.

Glock owners are prime troll targets for this very reason.

A lot of Glock owners do seem to think that only criticism that isn't "nonsensical" is "allowed", yet claim any criticism against "perfection" to be nonsensical, and thus invalid and not allowed.

The only similar reaction I can think of off the top of my head would be to start another "locked and cocked" thread over at 1911 forum ...

We've been playing "Ford vs. Chevy" for decades and it's gotten us nowhere. Shoot what YOU like and never feel the need to "justify" it to anyone.

This is a "riot"? Gee wizz.

Ahhh...yes the old rub "Glock Perfection". Well, my understanding is that Austrians have mightly high opinions of themselves. I wouldn't call a Glock perfect, though I understand while a marketing hack would. Right now it's the best tool that I've found for a job that have to have done. And btw, the marketing slogan of your favorite handgun manufacturer probably wouldn't bear scrutiny either, but odds are that no one knows what it that slogan is because a) it sucks b) it hasn't been successfully marketed or advertised.

mmike87, you'll kindly note that my defense of Glocks dealt directly with posts in this very thread regarding them. I didn't cast far and wide for other points to ponder, because I didn't have to. What's your excuse?

JC2's barb which asserts that you can blow up Glocks with factory ammo and that you can't do the same with a 1911 is specious, and that's putting it nicely.

That's about the best response to this thread yet.
