I'm very interested in buying a fullsize S&W M&P .40 in the near future. A few months ago, every other thread here was about M&P's, but not much now. Are you guys generally satisfied with them? Do you think most of the bugs have been worked out?

My fullsize 40 is running fine. My compact is OK. I'm not satisfied with it yet, but I also haven't had enough free time to put a lot of rounds through it.

My PD has almost 2,000 fullsize 40s in service. They've had very few problems.

I've got a couple of fullsize 9mms with close to 4000 rounds each thru them, and a range fullsize 40 with close to that as well.

I couldn't be happier, and I can't see a rationale for buying any other pistol (exceptin' maybe more M&Ps in 45ACP or such).

Perfectly happy with my full size 9mm. Just purchased the .45 but have not had time to shoot it. I own a bunch of pistols, and this model is one of my favorites---so far. With the newest SW promotions, now is the time to buy if you are looking.

I have three, with a fourth on layaway.

M&P9 (my favorite)
M&P9c (my ccw)
M&P40 (my bedside gun)

Layaway
M&P45 (dark brown - for fun, plus I couldn't pass up the rebate and free mags offer)

Needless to say I'm satisfied.

Lousy triggers

I have had more than my share of (the "G" word) and while they do nothing for me they ran perfect every time and they are unquestionably shootable. I have been shooting only 1911's now, other than revolvers, and decided that the M&P had much to offer over the "G" brand such as a grip that is better, good steel night sights, etc. My problem with the 9mm version I bought without the key lock, with night sights and mag safety (the only way you can get the other two options) was the trigger. While it felt acceptable in the shop it was absolutely unacceptable while trying to shoot paper. I had a very hard time hitting an 8" paper plate at 25 yards and I would have no problem hitting the same target consistently on my hind legs with the "G" guns any day of the week. I probably dry fired that gun in excess of 2000 times trying to learn to release that trigger without it dipping the muzzle down and I couldn't do it. They are exceptionally easy to do a trigger job on and everything else about the gun was perfect. I just sold mine and bought another 1911. There is a gunsmith who has instructions on his web sight for lightening the triggers and I'm sure you can find it doing a google search...I don't remember the guy's name or I'd post it. Hope this helps,

R

I have the full size MP's both the 9mm and .40 caliber. They are My Best Polymer guns and I have some real nice ones. First off they are the Most ergonomic and well balanced I have come across. The inter-changeable back straps are great. I have also put Hogue slip on grips on mine because I like finger grooves. It was not something I had to do, just a personal preference. The MP has the least amount of recoil and muzzle flip. It is one of the Best shooting .40's out there. The MP is easy to keep on target and follow up shots and double Taps are very easy to do. I like the triggers myself, never a problem. Of course I am used to the Taurus 24/7 SA/DA trigger and the Springfield XD. The MP is more like the Springfield XD. I have put over 1000 Rds through the 9mm and about 700-750 on the .40. Flawless so far not One FTF or FTE or feed problems. They shoot every kind of JHP you can find. The MP is super easy to take down and clean. The sale they have on right now gets you Two free Mag's for a total of four and a 50 Dollar rebate:what: I was at the Gun shop on Friday and that deal is good through late January or February 8, 2008 I cannot remember which. I almost bought new a new MP .45 because of the offer. But I Have quite a few .45's and I do not want to sleep in one of the Dog House's [I have two Dog's] My poor Wife is still in Shock from me buying Four guns
in a very short period of time a few months ago.:D

The Best to You and Yours!

How many self-defense situations are going to occur at 25 yards [75feet]? I would just shoot closer. I practice in the 5-10yard range. Sometimes I go out to the 15-18 yard distance. But Hell its a handgun, I will not be using it in situations farther out then 20 yards. Do you shoot competition? Take care Buddy!

I know, I know....I'm an accuracy freak though. I kept telling myself that until I just had to swap it. Chances are I will never need the gun and if I ever do chances are it will be at typical bad breath range. However, Murphy is still alive and if something can go wrong I'm the guy it's gonna happen too:)

Well, I have Glocks and I love them, but I'm looking for something new and different. The new Ruger looks interesting, but I still like the looks and ergonomics of the M&P.

mp news...they are trying to be glock again. better than the sigma, their last attempt.
FOR THE 800th DAMN TIME JUST BECAUSE IT'S A POLYMER FRAME STRIKER FIRED GUN DOESN'T MEAN IT'S A GLOCK COPY. :fire:

We all know the Glocks are copies of the HK VP70Z anyway. :neener:

As for the M&P semi-auto pistols, the $50 and two extra mags by mail rebate is a great deal from S&W.

My M&P 9 is great. It's my favorite gun right now. I do have a Ruger SR9 that I have yet to shoot (actually it arrived at my transfer dealer Friday and I haven't even picked it up yet).

I suspect that the M&P will remain my #1 as I am more accurate with it than any of my other guns and it is just so comfortable to shoot. We'll see...
