No other commodity is in short supply except ammo.

Have to look carefully - I was able to snag several boxes of bullets on MidwayUSA very recently when they popped up.
Lucky you, but looking carefully COMBINED with getting blind lucky may yield a snag for a very few people, but it's not going to put ammo or bullets in very many people's stockpiles. I think things will get worse before they get better. I think there's a significant likelihood that we will see the day in two or three weeks that today's ammo prices look attractive. I hope I'm wrong, but the bum's rush is ON.

Unfortunately, I agree with you.

Although, my time frame is in months, not weeks. Wait until the screws start turning. Then the wailing and gnashing of teeth will be in earnest.

Today on Gunbroker, I saw an astounding price for 1 box, yes, 1-50 round box of 45 Colt JHP Blazer for over $300 in the Buy Now category, plus $12 shipping!
I hope no one takes that "deal"...

I am amazed that even Armslist is evidently overwhelmed. Banner across the site that they are not accepting new accounts right now.

That is odd ... ad volume does not seem high , and ad turnover seems slow. I attributed that to the pay to play policy.
Smells fishy.

Have to look carefully - I was able to snag several boxes of bullets on MidwayUSA very recently when they popped up. They got wiped out soon, but if you have email notification and can move fast, you can find them. These were at pre panic prices, as well. Now POWDER...just paid $40 a pound for X-Terminator, because it was all I could find at the time. It is what it is

Again, I'm not talking about snagging internet sales. I'm talking about retail sales which I think the OP was referring to. $40/lb for powder isn't something to brag about. You aren't snagging anything, they're snagging you my friend. If you didn't prepare for this shortage you lose, and people are making money off of your complaisance.

Ackshully...the US population birth rate in 2020 was .09%. The population is listed as 328.2 million. So, that means we had over 29 million new toilet users...well, they will eventually be using the toilet....

But what was the death rate? No way we had that population increase in one year...

Wow——

At JGSales, in about four months a 1,000-rd. case of fmj Tula 7.62x39 went from crazy $380 to about $679 :confused:o_O ....before tax and shipping !!

If I expected — however irrationally — our :::suburbs::: to resemble Ramadi Iraq (in 2005 or so) etc....due to hysterically :what: irrational conclusions after watching the ::: urban riots on tv :::
then such a lunatic price would seem ok—for those who didn’t anticipate how fragile modern “civilization” can be.

They are currently out right now, but get new shipments in weekly via MD at my local.
800 rounds of 22LR for $100.
50 rounds of 9mm Luger for $42.
Pistol prices up about 40% as well.

Staggering.

Went to Academy Sports this morning. Had to return some scope rings, so I decided to go early and see if I could get some ammo. I thought they opened at 8am, but they open at 9am. Got there at 8:15 and there were already about 40 people lined up in the cold. I decided to get in line. It was a mix of folks, some like me who was the first time trying to get some ammo. Others said they line up every Monday to get some. They said the other days are mixed and the lines are similar.

So, right at 9am they opened the door. There were about 20 people behind me. The manager came out and showed what 223 ammo they had and then he set up a separate line for that ammo as soon as you get in the store. About half got in the 223 line and the other half went to the ammo section to get whatever else they had. It is a 3 box limit. No limit on shotgun. I was able to get 3 boxes of Frontier M193 5.56 for $10 a box. I guess it was worth it, but probably won't do it again.

I didn't go back to the ammo section, but I did see some guys coming out with 50 round 22LR match. I think I saw some 100 round handgun ammo boxes. To me prices seemed a little high, but way less than gunbroker or other internet sales.

Academy here has completely empty ammo shelves; sure do not know what I am going to do with the gift cards I got for Christmas now.

George P: Exactly.
. A civilization which must have electric power and functional microchips etc. Let’s avoid the more "detailed" type of “Mel Gibson/Bartertown:feet:” chat which frightens the Moderators.;)

—My car tank was always kept at 3/4 minimum during the first month of the Covid panic last spring. Stopped pretty often.

I was concerned that social media rumors about possible gasoline truck supply interruptions ....easily could have begun and caused very long lines. Made more sense than toilet paper anxiety.
The speculative 'conclusion' began last February while at a gas station near Citronelle AL (Hwy 45) northwest of Mobile : the clerk told me they were o_OOut Of Gas due to a problem with a delivery truck.
If social media had noticed a few of these glitches in one area....

Thank you for the gratuitous denigrations for my assistance to the thread. I never said I wasn't prepared. I "snagged" the internet BULLET sales, which were at pre panic prices, so yes, compared to what you can find at a brick and mortar store, IF you can find ANYTHING, I did SNAG a DEAL. The powder was not a deal at all, and presented as an example of such. Also, spell check is your friend - "complacence".
