A truck carrying 2,200 piglets crashed and spilled its contents yesterday near Dayton OH. Over 1,000 were killed in the accident, and many were rounded up. Last I heard they were still missing approx. 200 piglets that escaped into a wooded area.

From what I've read, pigs tend to go feral very quickly. So far OH had been spared wild pig problems, and wild pig hunting. Very possible that may soon change as to both.

A thousand extra piggy's won't help anything, but I believe there are feral pigs in Ohio.

Feral Swine in Ohio

I have driven across Ohio every year I shoot at Camp Perry, lots of farm land, lots of Piggy food. I am surprised they are not as numerous as they are down South, considering that Wild Boars lived in cold Russia, I don't see a reason why a Ohio winter would be a barrier.

Wow, wish I'd known that before my last 3 pig hunts in Ohio. Must be the locals wallowing in the mud and making all those pig tracks.

You want feral pigs, just come east to PA.
See and shoot them every year for the past 6... Not a private farm either. Middle and Eastern part of the state are getting overrun by them.

Game commission says shoot 'em and shoot 'em all. No season. No limits.

@ poster #9:
Curious,
How many wild pigs did you see, and how many did you kill in your last three "pig hunts" in Ohio?

Green county is rather flat and rather open compared to where most wild piggies thrive.

I'm guessin most of those that don't find a bullet or broadhead, may well turn into auto insurance claims.

I still haven't got my sighting or my shot, but after seeing all the sign, I know its only a matter of time. I hunt public land in Vinton Co. which is probably first or second in Ohio hog populations. This is my third year going down for a spring weekend to hunt.

Thanks for the feedback Tim.

Virtually all media reports are now claiming the vast majority of surviving pigs were captured.

Hmm..

I don't know whether they were or not, but I do know that there are some serious penalties for releasing hogs into the wild, especially if negligence is involved, which might affect their public statements. :)
