Non-IER scope with 5+" of eye relief?

I'm confused by your terminology. IER means intermediate eye relief, so if you want a scope with eye relief between pistol (LER) and normal hold-it-to-your-eye rifle eye relief, that's IER.

Since you said Banner I am guessing you mean you need a LTUBNIER scope, right?

(Longer Than Usual But Not Intermediate Eye Relief)

What's the application? And what exactly is the acceptable eye box size? Is 3" of depth good enough? 7"?

Correct. An example of the problem would be the Ruger #1; it's action design (and resultant ring placement) does not allow most of today's short-bodied optics to work given an eye relief in the 3"-4" range, and yet the receiver's ring placement is too close for most IER (Burris, Vortex) optics to work (even with offset rings).

In general, I have determined that 5"-7" of eye relief will work for many of my problem projects. On my long action Savage brush gun that I chambered in 358W, for example, I mounted the (now out of production) Leupold IER VX2 1.5-4x28mm at the far end of a one piece Weaver base. That worked out ok, although I'd probably like more magnification on the top end. That optic was the only IER optic that allowed an eye relief as close as 6"-7"; all others were in the > 9" range (hence the 'Longer Than Usual But Not Intermediate Eye Relief' need).

Yup, that's a weird range... or, out there but impossible to find. Wish some big dealer would have an eye relief filter.

One that comes to mind is the (discontinued) VX-2 1.5-4x28mm IER Scout Scope. 6-6.9" The similar vx-freedom as available here has rather less eye relief, sadly: https://swfa.com/leupold-1-5-4x28-vx-freedom-scout-scope.html so be cautious, but if it has enough mag then maybe find a lightly used or NOS one of those somewhere?

Note the "scout" term. I think maybe looking for that may lead somewhere, and you might find some scopes more between IER and LER then. Maybe.

Makes me think of the old Noske. Not up to modern optics, but so much eye relief it could be mounted with the ocular just in front of a Mauser or Springfield bolt handle. No bolt or safety modification required.

I got a VX-6 not too long ago. It seems to have extremely generous eye relief. Way more than my VX-III and other scopes.

Dunno if is enough, but I’d at least look at one up close and personal
