I was talking to a friend tonight who wanted to know if there was a way to mount a light to an AR-15 fore-end such that it would not interfere with, say, an in-car roof mount where the rifle is stored clamped in port-side up. Thus began a fascinating search that has brought me to this left-side clamp by Bushmaster that gives you a standard rail attachment point, and seems somewhat low-profile. For $32, I'm willing to buy one and give it a try.
Now, that accepts most of the common rail-attached lights, including the Glock and Streamlight lights I already have around the house, but I also found this clamp (second item from the top) that attaches to two of the standard Surefire lights which enables them to then slide on to the above AR-15 rail mount. Also $32 and thus worth a try at the very least.
Anyone have any other ideas on how best to accomplish this? Remember - it has to NOT interfere with an interior roof-mount overhead locking clamp. Think police patrol car.
