I'd like to spruce up my old Marlin 336. What Im looking for is some way to paint over the wood in a simple black and tan stripe a nice, gritty texture wood be cool too. Any suggestions as to the best way to go about this?

I know this is an old post but Ive had great results with duplicolor truck bed liner availible at walmart for about 6-7$. Once it has cured its very tough and you can paint it any color you want, comes in black. The further you are away when spraying it the more "sandy" the feel. For a bumpy yet smoother(not so gritty) just spray a little closer.

Well... if you are going to paint it anyway, and you want a "gritty texture", just add some fine sand. No really!!

Pain your base coat on, while wet, sprinkle on some very fine sand. The really fine stuff that folks put in their fish tanks. Let the base coat dry, and then paint your colors over it. That will lock in the sand.

I'd suggest avoiding the cheek piece area... ;)

Good Luck...

Joe
