I'd like to spruce up my old Marlin 336. What Im looking for is some way to paint over the wood in a simple black and tan stripe a nice, gritty texture wood be cool too. Any suggestions as to the best way to go about this?
To each his own right? The old Ultra Light arms rifles had a very attractive striped camo pattern. My old Marlin's stock is pretty dinged up I'm not into dressing up like a cowboy so i figured a nice camo epoxy finish would be practical for the areas I hunt.
In the paint departments of places like Home depot, there is some paint called "Flec Stone" or "Stone Wear" or something like that. It gives a textured finish and comes in several colors. I do not know how well it holds up though.
I've used that paint from Home Depot.Works well & looks good.If it were me though I'd overcoat it with a spray matte poly.
You can add fine silica sand to most paints to make them non-skid.Depending on how "rough"you want the finish you might try making the first coat a w/sand & succeding coat(s) w/o.
Oh,& a pic of the finished product will be required.
