Hello. I'm new to THR so correct me if I'm going about this wrong. I'm thinking about starting to get into reloading shot shells for hunting and target shooting. I'm looking into the non toxic shot such as bismuth or tungsten polymer and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. The main reason for this is that I'm tired of dumping tons of cash into steel shot every duck season and not being able to reach to more than 30 to 40 yards. I know the non toxic shot is a lot more expensive but from what research i have done it is also denser than lead. I have also read post about people making 60 to 70 yard shots with it. I'm also looking into getting started with either a MEC steel master or size master. any input would be appreciated.

You could buy the Mec Sizemaster and also buy a steel shot conversion kit for it. That way you'd be able to load standard lead plus steel. Lyman's 5th Edition manual has load data for lead, bismuth, and steel shot. BPI Ballistic Products sells all the latest non-toxic shot. They also have manuals for all the different shot BUT most of their data uses their own components so to use their manuals you'd probably have to buy their wads, etc. The non-toxic special shot is expensive but you should be able to work up some deadly long range loads.

Just get the mec steelmaster because it will load lead or steel and get Lymans current manual. You can get manuals specific to the type of shot you will be loading from ballistic products and precision reloading, but be prepared to purchase components from them as well if you want to assemble the published loads.
