Ill try and make this as unconfusing and short as i can.
I never owned a gun with a scope.
Then I bought a M&P 15/22 and Put BSA R/G/B lighted 3x9x40 scope in it. I had sighting in issues and was shown other scopes and offered a return.
I was shown a few scopes and given a bit of information to help make a decent choice.
My big issue with the BSA was the eye relief and reticle was not the easiest to use. At that point i had a few Nikon's and Leupold's to look at and i found the Nikon to be the easiest to use with eye relief and such. The Leupold's were on par in how they worked but much more expensive.
I chose a Buckmaster 3-9x40 as i could even tell a difference in that over the Prostaff line, But not by much.

Fast forward two weeks and i buy a Savage 93BTV .17HMR and the Nikon immediately swapped onto that gun and the Bushnel Sharpshooter 3-9x40 that came in the Savage package went on the 15/22

Now after two range days i can not for the life of me get my eyes on that Bushnels reticle comfortably without breaking my neck or it being half out of focus just trying to find the sweet spot to use it.
But it is very accurate. But i now hate shooting the gun as its so uncomfortable and hard to get a sight picture.

Ive tried 2 different heights and the stock is adjustable and i still cant be happy.

Is this a common occurrence in a cheap scope? Its about a $30 scope online.
Or am not doing something right?
I think its just the scope as i feel like im driving a caddy when using the Nikon.
I really cant afford another $200 scope.

If im gonna have to buy another i think i know my options, Except one.
The CenterPoint 3-9x32mm Rimfire

Will this scope make me decently happy in the eye area and not make me and my neck hurt? I know its not gonna be a Nikon, But i do here its alot better scope than its price shows.

If not that i know i can score a Prostaff or Redfield at a decent price.

If there are any other options besides a new scope list them.
If you have a scope suggestion in the $75-$125 range that will make my right eye happy as a clam id love to here about it.

I have the centerpoint scope on my .22 and not many squirrels make it past my reticle. however, have you tried moving the scope back to give yourself a little better eye relief? the guns you are talking about dont have much recoil so you dont need much eye relief at all, so a larger diameter scope probably isnt necessary. also what do you use the scopes for? hunting? or just plinkin. if just plinkin, than just put a cheap scope on it or even leave it open. youll still have a ball! by the way tell me how that .17 shoots kinda interested!

Mostly just plinking and target shooting. But i hope to maybe do some squirrel hunting as i haven't had a license in almost 30 years. Depending on the area id most likely hunt with the .17 tho.
You may be onto something about moving the scope back, I had it like that when i bought it. But was told on S&W forums where the 15/22 has its own forum that the reticle should be even with the charging handle. I had no issue with it in that spot with the Nikon. But it could help with with Bushnell to move it rearward a bit.

I cant use open sights due to crappy vision and need a new pair of glasses and exam as im 40 and i think its gotten worse in the last 4 years.
Even red dots i have a max range of 50'-75' depending on the MOA of the sight.

Hows the 93BTV shoot? It's stock fits like a glove and the trigger is absolutely amazing with 1.5lb pull from the factory. Mine has the bull barrel and since .17 HMR is inherently accurate due to its precise ammo manufacturing.
Ive read a story of a gun club guy who did judging for rimfire matches of some sort open to ANY rimfire gun. He said no one ever scored a perfect match until the .17hmr came out and it was beating the .22lr guys so bad they had to put the .17 in its own class so people could enjoy shooting their .22's in matches again. Im retelling that as accurately as i can remember it, But read it just recently on this forum i believe.

If you ever played with a laser pointer thats what the .17hmr reminds me of.
Now the bad points.
Ammo is $12-$14 for a box of 50, But remember this is very precise ammo.
Choosing the correct ammo type if you hunting is very important im told. Use FMJ/HP for larger game and body shots on squirrels as a ballistic tip will basically explode the squirrel with a body shot. And it wont have enough penetration on larger animals like coyotes. But since its so accurate if you can get a squirrel standing still a head shot is easy enough with a ballistic tip.
Average range for .17hmr is 100-150 yards but 200 yards isn't unheard of.

I paid $329 for my 93BTV which is low to average price.
