I am trying to come up with a holster for when I am out x-country/backcountry skiing. Most likely for a revolver such as my 386 snubby or 329 4 inch, I have others(629,Ruger Alaskan,S&W 65,1911,CZ's etc.) but want to carry something light. I want it to stay concealed to not agitate anyone I run into(my choice). Shoulder holster wouldn't work well with all the poling. IWB would be uncomfortable/awkward. The belly band didn't work so well. A chest rig maybe but it would be slow to get to, plus some times I carry a light pack. The same holster would probably work well hiking/climbing in the summer I would think.

If you want to carry your big revolvers like the 629 or Ruger Alaskan, try the Simply Rugged "Chesty Puller". It should also work with your small revolvers.

I won't wear one in everyday life but when I'm hiking(will work for any outdoor activity) I carry in a DeSantis Gunny Sack. They keep the weapon safe, out of the elements and no one even gives it a second glance out in the field...

Think about the safepacker, which was originally designed for SAR team members, and is great for an outdoorsman who doesn't want to OC, but nothave a backpack waist belt interfere with the draw motion. ...good gun protection, retention and concealment...no one will notice this on your backpack hipbelt...
