Below are some pics of the Norinco M14 I picked up yesterday.

I posted a little about the bolt and headspace already, along with links to to other pages with info about all the negative publicity and hype surrounding these rifles.

I have fired it only 6 times thus far, on my 25 meter range in the back yard.

It's sighted in roughly at the "battlesight zero" and I will be making a trip to the gun club with the 300 yard range soon enough.

The only major modification I'm looking to make now is a synthetic stock from Freds.

Rifle and three 30-round mags, tax included, was $700.

Is that import ban going to expire or what? I'd love a $250 M14 and one of those .308 Dragunovs.

Typo on the mags. Three 20-rounders. I had "three" on the brain when I punched the "3" key by mistake.

And no, the import ban won't expire when the AWB will.

The Norincos and Polytechs are covered by an executive order specifically against guns from China.

Executive Orders are limited and targeted in their scope, and exist until a President un-dos them.

I thought that the ban was MUCH older than that... I hardly ever see any Norinco guns, whether they're M-14s, 1911s, SKSs, MAK90s, etc.

There's a permanent 1989 ban on imported "assault weapons." Most Norincos are able to get through the '89 ban and the GCA, but are stopped by an executive order specifically banning firearms of Chinese manufacture. The specific ban on Norincos is punative rather than regulatory in nature, hence it expires eventually.

Having just spent $1300 on a "Loaded Standard" Springfield M1A, I am thusly compelled to say that your Norinco rifle is grossly inferior, likely dangerous, and certainly unpatriotic. As if our trade defecit weren't big enough, now you're funding communists. Tell me -- do you make the check out to the People's Republic of China or directly to the People's Liberation Army? When the big one comes, I doubt very much that your Chicom rifle will keep you safe from the cluster bomb it paid for.

Good day, sir!

:D :D :D ( <-- note the smilies)

If you can get the foreign parts count down to 10 you can put a flash suppressor and bayonet lug on it on Sept 14.
