My local Gun shop has both the Yugoslavian and the chinese Norinco SKS in stock, the yugoslav has a 10round magazine with it and the chinese has a 30rounder. Chinese has spike bayonette and appears to have a slightly shorter barrel. The Yugo has a compensator or flashhider on the barrel end and seems to have somewhat rougher finish.

Anyone have either or both and which is better?

Both are for sale for $198 out the door.

Thanks

Unless the Norinco is a pre ban the bayonet needs to be taken off as that is a evil feature, other than that it is your choice, that is a fair price for both.

I have both, and they both shoot about the same.........either one will work, am having trouble finding a sight adjustment tool for the yugo, the regular sks tools won't work on the Yugo..........

Most of the wholesale houses are up to $139-$169 before shipping and the man has to make a little. Eather that or get your own FFL.

JEM375

I had the same problem with B-Square sight adjustment tools for my Yugo SKS.

I had to grind out the elevation tool to go over the wider Yugo front sight post, and use a C-clamp to attach the windage tool to the sight hood (the grenade sight got in the way of the normal set screws).

The Norinco isn't one of the -D or -M models that takes AK mags is it? They were usually paratrooper models with shorter barrels... If so that is worth it, they usually are worth more and that would be a great buy it looks like. Or is it just the crappy "duckbill" SKS hi-caps? They are trash, I wouldn't buy the Norinco in that case simply because it doesn't come with a quality, functioning mag. Those things are crap, stick with the factory 10 rnd fixed mags...

Dain.......good idea.....I am going to take off the grenade launcher, I don't need it and the rifle really looks good with it off.....

I'd buy the Yugo, more people seem to like those than the Norincos. BTW I wouldn't remove the nade launcher. Too much trouble.

I don't feel the Norinco is junk, although I prefere the Russian SKS over all others. I've owned 3 different (makers) SKS's and the Norinco is my 3rd or 4th pick but it will still get you where you want to go just as well as any other maker. The first SKS I owned (Clayco ? $300 !) 15 or so years ago was a Norinco and I only got rid of it out of boredom. My main objection with Norinco is the wood they use, but thats an easy fix for $60. The Yugo isn't chrome lined, thats a big negative for me.

Both are unissued and pristine, and the yugo does have a folding bayonette also.

So then it must be covered in cosmoline goop?

BTW I wouldn't remove the nade launcher. Too much trouble.

It's a piece of cake. I removed one. But you'll need to replace it with a flash hider. There will be bare threads. Or you could just keep the nade launcher and drill holes in it as a makeshift flash hider, but that looks kinda crappy and doesn't work so good.

The Norinco is certainly lighter and that makes it more fun to shoot longer.

My Norinco outshoots my Yugo 59/66s, but that not necessarily the rule. Some 59/66s shoot extremely well and some Norincos shoot bad. All Norincos are certainly not junk!

All my SKS's are rock solid reliable and most are if not screwed up by attempts to add extended capacity with aftermarket magazines.

Get the one in the best condition and the one you like better, but put the original mag on the Norinco if you get it.

Gotta chime in to defend my Norinco Type 56. One thing that it isn't is Junk.
But the craftsmanship is definately lacking.

It's a solid rifle and should hold up just as well as any other make SKS. However, if you have issues with stamped parts and tool marks, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.

I have found the Norincos to be variable in quality. The two that I have though are nicer than any of the Yugos that I have looked at. And as someone else mentioned they do have the chrome lined bore. I would buy a Russian if I could find one...

My NORINCO isnt bad,
it fires when i pull the trigger and shoots where I aim it, its probably more accurate than I am
that being said I wish I had a YUGO too :D
for variaty's sake
