Norinco type 81 assault rifle

I stumbled across this rifle on the PRC military web site, and it looked really cool. It appears to be an advanced version of the AK.

Does anyone know if they make, and sell, a Semi auto version of this rifle? I don't suppose the MAK-90 is related to this, is it? It doesn't appear to be the same.

Even if they made a semi-auto version, it could not be imported currently. Here is some more info on the Type 81.

the type 81 is the moder version of the type 68.

think of it as the bastard child of an AK and an SKS

I used to think the Chinese military were a bunch of AK slinging conscripts. Turns out they actually care about marksmanship and decent weapons to go along.

This link has lots of good pictures. Looks like a short stroke gas piston, but not the SKS type, almost look like an AR-18 doesn't it?

It seems Norinco was just about to start exporting it here when the ban hit them.
