ive had a Normark skinning axe for a few years now, i've been using it to process my small game. it seams to be pretty sturdy, but some-what lightweight. it does cut wood, but it takes awhile and the edge seems to stay fairly sharp.
i recently picked up for myself a little Gerber backpack hatchet to carry with or have in a BOB.
do you think that the Normark S.Axe would be a good / useful enough tool to pass down to my 10 YO son for use in his Survival/camping kit? ive already given him a Cold Steel Mini-Bushman, a buck folding knife, and a basic leatherman multitool along with a buch of personal gear in his little pack..
the normark would be light for him to carry and give him a small sense of security if lost out in the wilds. he isnt allowed to build fires yet (not that far yet on his training) so he will not need to cut firewood. he could use it to build a shelter with it though i guess.
any thoughts, ideas, opinions? thanks -Eric
