S&W model 65 Back from the gunsmith, I love it but I know the torches and pitch forks are going to come out.

Thanks I do too, I love the front night sight.

Hey wait it looks like you are a Colt guy though lol

No complaints from me. The model 65 you started with is a great gun, but it was not a rare collectable. And besides, it's your gun, there is no reason not to have it just the way you want it.

I have actually considered building the exact same configuration from a model 64. I like despurred hammers, and I have never particularly liked the 4" heavy barrel on a K-frame. But a 3" slab side seems like just the right length and weight. I also really like the dovetailed front sight.

If you wouldn't mind, I would like to ask a few questions.
  • Are you willing to say who did the work? The gun looks good and I'd be interested to know worked on it.
  • Was the single action notch removed to make the gun truly DAO, or can the hammer still be cocked if you get a hold on it?
  • Would you be willing to provide some more close up pictures? I would like to see the front sight and its dovetail in detail. I'd also like to see the back of the hammer.
  • What make is the front sight, and what do you think of the sight picture through the rear sight? Was the rear sight modified at all?
Congratulations on owning a great gun.

And with a pinned and recessed model 65 no less! I like the barrel and front sight but don't care for the bobbed hammer. It's not just your gun though. I don't care for bobbed hammers on any revolver

I plan on writing a review this weekend to answer all of those questions and getting some more pictures. I will post it back here.

My hands are so large I like the square butt better, I like a big butt LOL.

I actually went back and forth shooting round vs square trying to make up my mind and the square butt definitely feels better and I would say shoot a little better but not by much. Holding the square butt just makes my confidence better and I think that is truly what people are trying to say when we talk about the feel in the hand.

Love it! Can't wait for the review...still kicking myself for selling a nice M64, 3" years ago when they were still cheap.

I've actually been looking for a decent, cheap M64 to do something VERY similar.
More likely than not I'll use a factory DAO police trade-in since they seem to be able to be got pretty affordably.

Sweet! Nothing at all wrong with customizing a gun to your own liking, and I do like the bobbed hammer! Looking forward to your range report ...

I love it. That is an awesome revolver you have right there; please let us know how it shoots!

As I said to you on the S7W Forum, well done.

You've turned a factory stock gun into a personalized and more functional weapon. Nothing but kudos from me. (smile)

I love it but I know the torches and pitch forks are going to come out.

Don't really understand why you feel the need to thumb your nose at those of us who like to keep our revolvers the way they left the factory.

It's not my cup of tea, but it's your money and your gun, not a rare gun, and yours to do with as you wish.

I hope you enjoy shooting it.

For the record, here is my Model 65-3. Nothing fancy,

Driftwood I was not thumbing my nose. When I picked it up at the shop I had those that liked it and some said man why would you do that to a model 65.

On a pinned and recessed gun none the less! Oh the horror!

I wouldn't mind if S&W got a little more creative with their modern K frames. There's some neat L/N frames rolling out of the Performance Center. How about some new K comps and the like?
