I have, several SAK's. Most by Victorinox and one by Wegner. The Wenger is cool because it has a locking blade, but is not the point of this discussion.

My main VSAK's are two Officers(one with a corkscrew stays in shaving kit the other with a Phillips head) and a Pioneer Rancher. Just bought the Rancher and what a difference. These are part of the metal handled ones including the Soldier. This knife is built like a tank. Solid, stout blades, much heavier then my other ones. Even the awl - reamer, and bottle opener are different than the run of the mill that I am use to seeing. This differs from the Soldier in that the can opener is replaced with a hookbill blade - like a prunning blade. The knife is intended for weekend yard carry. I highly recommend the Metal (checkered) handle series. Very nice knife for under $30.

I find the Wenger and Victorinox knives to be one of the best bargains out there. You can't beat them for the money as far as quality goes. My wife thinks I have to many...imagine that. ;)

Personally, I find the Wengers to look too cheesy. They look really flimsy and cheap, with crappy liners and blades; almost as if they were made of die-cast metal. I have never owned one.

I think the Vics are really nice for the money. My Huntsman is a nicely made little tool.

Someone on one of the knife forums mentioned that the victorinox models have stronger back spring. Personally I think it's more about what tools come with each model of the knife.

I had an old Victorinox that had been a gift from me to my mother, that came back to me when she passed away. It was beat up, the scales were falling off, the blades sharpened so many times they were about 3/4 of their original width. Send it to the repair center and they offered me a new one, which I took. (I know some would look at it as a keepsake, but I have plenty other memories to hold on to.) Thought that was pretty good of them.

The Vic Soldier is an excellent knife for general use. I carry the Locksmith most of the time as it has a large blade for cutting and the other accessory features come in handy. The metal file and saw blade is there for backup, but have never used it.

I've never had good experience with Wenger......I'll only carry a Victorinox, a brand I do love and that has served me very well.
