very nice how does the harness work? do you slide your pants belt through those keyhole like slots?

Very nice looking outfit, both the leather and the guns. I like the fact that this something you don't see everyday and the execution of both is stunning. Looking around the internet on your guns I did not see any examples as good as yours. I assume you had them redone but just to get the base guns before the work would be fairly pricey. Wish I had them as I like to shoot .32 S&W BP loads that I make in my 3 break tops and my 1849 repo with a conversion cylinder. My wife does too. You are a lucky man, thanks for sharing.

Heck just wish I could find some S&W 32short for my Remingnton pocket pistol with its conversion cylinder. I'd settle for just the brass. ::D

Just by appearance it is long. 32 short are about the same length as the auto stuff and the auto stuff will actually chamber and shoot in an old tip I have. (I don't make that a practice)

It looks like the rig would be anchored via those keyholed button holes to buttons on the front and back waistband of the trousers.

Yep, that's how suspenders work. Pants designed for them typically have buttons sewn on the inside of the waistband to anchor them [that way, the buttons won't interfere w/ a belt, if the wearer prefers belts to suspenders.]

Don't go thinking the suspenders are for a midget: "waistlines" were worn much higher then than they are today [well, that's not saying much: recent styles have had pants fair sliding off the slackers' backsides!]
:D

Unfortunately, I fall into that category now after wearing a size 32 waist in pants for almost 40 years. Some of my gun belts now longer fit.

Gringo.........
Have u/would u try 32ACP in that IJ tip up. Have the same piece and have shot auto stuff in it.Not a bunch but they do work and quite well. Mine is nickled.
OP: Pardon the off topic. Don't mean to hijac .............

Nice looking rig and guns. I would like to see the guns unholstered perhaps a shot of both showing either side.

re:32ACP I wonder if any of the folks up in Revolvers (Modern ones that is) that are having trouble finding .32S&W might not hand load for their .32s using BP in .32Cases?

There was another photo of just the guns. I would like to see a known object alongside for scale. IE: Are these the same size as my Remington pocket or ..........?

What ever they are a nice looking brace of pistols. Color me green .

Please don't fire factory .32 ACP in a revolver made for .32 S&W or .32 S&W Long! .32 ACP runs 6-7k psi pressure more than the .32 S&W, or 20,500 vs 14,000. At best, an old revolver will shoot loose; at worst, it might let go and destroy the gun or injure the shooter.

Yes, it would be OK to load .32 ACP brass to .32 S&W levels or even use black powder, but I am not a fan of mismatched brass and loads; too much chance of making a mistake.

KBob, the picture is very wide; see if there is a bar at the bottom of your screen that you can "slide" to the right to see the rest of the picture.

Prairie Dawg:

Did I see somewhere that you bought these pistols from Happy Trails?

I know Hap very well. Did he make the new cylinders? I bought a pair of Merwin Hulberts from Hap a few years ago, also with new cylinders he made from modern steel. I don't know what you paid for the rig, but if you got it from Hap, I suspect he gave you a very good deal. That's just the kind of guy he is. I also suspect, if you bought them from Hap, the new cylinders will be fine with mild Smokeless loads.

I dont think at least i hope no one is talking about using factory 32 acp loads in a BP revolver but using the cases with BP and lead bullets is fine the worst i could say is that
some gases could slip through the case/chamber but under experimentation this did not happen

Hi Driftwood:
Yep, Hap is a great guy & a wonderful smith.
I've bought several guns from him in the past, all really nice.
And he's worked on several of my guns.'
He did make new cylinder for them and sent me some of his mild 32 S&W and 32 S&W Long loads.
They are sooooo cool!

Hap had them nickeled, the old frames/barrels & the new cylinders. He had a set of aged ivory grips made for them.
They're really splendid!

Howdy Again Prairie Dawg

I don't want to hijack your thread, but since we're talking about Happy Trails, here is the pair of Merwin Hulberts he sold me a few years ago. Hap had them nickel plated and they have new cylinders he made from modern steel. They are not museum pieces, Hap reworked them heavily. I suspect he used the same guy to make the faux ivory grips too.
