I flipped over to NPR this morning on my drive to work and happened across NPR's coverage of the story. (No, I'm not an old greybeard, I'm in my twenties, I promise.)
To paraphrase a little tidbit that irked me:
"Mexicans are indignant that you can just go across the Rio Grande and buy an M16 or AK-47 high powered rifle."
Seriously?
There are very few people in the US that privately own M16s, and even FEWER that own AK-47s, and AK-47s have been banned from import since the 1980s.
Even if you could find one, you'd be subject to NFA regulations and the BATF/E would know exactly where it came from.
When confronted with the Fox news rebuttal to the 90% number, Eric Holder said (again paraphrasing): "I don't care if it's 60%, 40%, or 20%, that's too many."
:banghead:
If I can find the transcript to the story, I'll post it. I plan on e-mailing NPR once I find the transcript.
