NRA Life member a little disappointed in the NRA

While I sing their praises for keeping us armed, I am sick of being solicited. Today I received a DVD, Personal Defense or whatnot. It also comes with the stipulation that if I keep it, they will send more and bill me. So I use their self address postage paid envelope to return the disc. Seems like a big waste of NRA funds that could be used... Say in New York or Colorado. Sheesh sorry about the rant.


Please note that I donate regularly, and just sometimes think they should rethink their strategy on solicitation.

We've pointed this out a bunch of times before, but solicitations are a science. If they did not make more money for the fight because they send those things out, than they waste on folks who don't respond with money, they would stop IMMEDIATELY.

Same with all the other NRA "junk mail." They do it because it WORKS. Maybe not on you, maybe not on me, but on enough people to pay them back many times over. And that's the bottom line. More money for the fight.

If you don't care to see it, just put yourself on their "no solicitations" list.
 
It is illegal to send you more unsolicited DVDs. In fact it is illegal for them to force you to return one you did not ask for.

Whoever does the DVD mailings treads a VERY fine line, I would argue crosses it, in implying otherwise.

Keep the DVDs, throw them out, whatever. Feel free to ignore the threatening letter. If you really don't want them, call them up and tell them (NRA) to stop the unsolicited mailings. There is a mechanism for it.
 
I agree it's annoying but if it helps the cause so be it. (As was stated that it must make us money otherwise we wouldn't still be doing it). That's why I always put a fake phone # when I donate online or write to them about something. Too many phone calls.

I've gotten those DVD's before too and thrown them away, no worries. Just remember whenever you get that stuff that it helps our cause.
 
i get annoyed by the dvd mailing.. i never watch them.. i dont send them back.. i have never been billed..

i have emailed asking to not get them once..

its a waste.. i would bill them to send it back if i did.. i dont have time for stuff i did not ask for..

i donate.. i am a member.. i buy from NRA store... enough..
 
I don't like that either but am a realist and want them to raise money. I will take the good with the bad, realizing these things make them money and a minimal amount of my time to deal with it is part of the cost of freedom.
 
It has been pointed out repeatedly that NRA members can opt out of solicitations by calling or using their website.

Too many major things to be sick about, out of control government, poor public schools, Obama care, etc., never sweat the small stuff like junk mail.;)
 
I have recruited many members and converted even more anti's. while I do not agree with everything the NRA does, they are still our "gorilla in the room" I did not know about the limited mailing list, thank you. I emailed them. I normally just toss everything in my trash. The DVD just pissed me off that they would continue to send more if I didn't return it.... Sorry guys just an old aggravated man that gets way too much junk mail.....
 
It came with a return envelope. Easiest thing in the world to pop it back in the box.

I'll admit that it irritated me a bit at first, too. Then, I flushed out my headgear and did a fit check: I signed up on their list voluntarily, and stay on it because I do occasionally WANT the stuff they offer me.

It's a little bit like wooing a woman by lavishing her with attention and gifts; as soon as you get her to stay, you act all surprised that she likes to talk and spend money. :p
