That credit card look familiar to ya? It should...
Greetings and salutations, folks.
You'll recall my trip up to Chicago on July 21st to turn in a bunch of scrap metal for what amounted to $100 bills.
The thread, "A BEST BUY in Chicagoland: Selling (s)crap metal at a gun turn in" can be found here.
Long story short: Some unnamed corporate sponsor coughs up about $600,000 in pre-paid credit cards to be given away for guns in any condition on July 21. A number of Guns Save Life members donated various clunkers and non-firing pieces of (s)crap metal and on that fateful day, I ventured to the heart of the not-so-nice part of Chicago and traded a total of 23 guns for 23 $100 pre-paid credit cards, netting $1700 for Guns Save Life.
We thought it fitting to use that money to sponsor ammunition for the NRA Youth Shooting Camp this weekend at Darnall's in Bloomington.
This is the longest-running NRA camp of its type in the nation!
Not only that, but we used most of five of the cards to buy two CZ rifles to be given away tomorrow to two of the lucky young people at the camp!
Anyway, here are some of the photos from today. I took a break from my lead instructor on the pistol line during the third segment of the day (of four) to visit the four stations and capture some of the spirit of fun and excitement of the event.
I had to work Friday, so I missed the sessions held then on Shotguns, Air-rifles and education done on Guns Save Life's shooting simulator... which included lessons in game anatomy done while the kids tried their hands at shooting various game animals, both static and in video. Also, some of the young people got a primer on shooting trap by practicing on the simulator to learn how to "lead" the birds and what their patterns look like. Also hunting ethics and rules in "shoot - don't shoot" scenarios.
So, sorry, no pix of all that...
But here are the ones from today!
"THANK YOU FOR SAVING A LIFE"... That's right. We're GUNS SAVE LIFE!
Approximately 85-90 kids were participating this year.
Today's sessions were on pistols, rifles, archery and muzzle loading.
I'll post more Monday of the events tomorrow if all goes well - including some close ups of the two guns that Mayor Daley's pet program bought to give away to CHILDREN! Oh noes!
