Hey, thanks Chicago Gun Best Buy! PART II
Greetings and salutations, folks.
You'll recall my trip up to Chicago on July 21st to turn in a bunch of scrap metal for what amounted to $100 bills.
The thread, "A BEST BUY in Chicagoland: Selling (s)crap metal at a gun turn in" can be found here from THR or here for the Arfcom version..
Long story short: Some unnamed corporate sponsor coughs up about $600,000 in pre-paid credit cards to be given away for guns in any condition on July 21. A number of Guns Save Life members donated various clunkers and non-firing pieces of (s)crap metal and on that fateful day, I ventured to the heart of the not-so-nice part of Chicago and traded a total of 23 guns for 23 $100 pre-paid credit cards, netting $1700 for Guns Save Life.
We thought it fitting to use that money to sponsor ammunition for the NRA Youth Shooting Camp this weekend at Darnall's in Bloomington.
This is the longest-running NRA camp of its type in the nation!
Not only that, but we used most of five of the cards to buy two CZ rifles to be given away tomorrow to two of the lucky young people at the camp!
Here is the link to the post containing photos of the kids at four of the shooting stations on Saturday... Part I, if you will.
Here are the pictures from Sunday...
This is Sassy. She's the friendliest pit I know. She's getting old and she's about as deaf as a post. That's kind of what one would expect of a dog living on a shooting range. Her daughter Precious (my favorite of the two) died this spring, one of the victims of some Chinese folks adding poison to dog food ingredients. Hey, thanks, you godless commies.
I got back from breakfast a little early before the kids, so I gave her some attention. Sassy was wearing a big grin after I gave her a small steak and rubbed her belly. Here she is in her most vicious state.
Okay, back to business.
Here are about 90% of the kids at the camp. A few had to leave before we got around to the group picture. Good kids.
As one might imagine, the kids were abuzz at the thirteen guns that were to be given away later in the afternoon. Ninety kids, 13 guns... Imagine, you're kid goes to a bargain camp, learns gun safety, responsibility and responsible firearm use and as an added bonus, has about a one in six chance of bringing home their very own gun...
The winners. At this time, we aren't going to publish their names, but if you want to know, pick up a copy of GunNews, which is Guns Save Life's monthly journal. Circulation: 9000.
Hey, thanks Mayor Daley for your gun event. Your money bought these fine bolt-action rifles which will last a lifetime or two for these young adults. Yes, your money was responsible for us giving guns to children.
"THANK YOU FOR SAVING A LIFE"... That's right. We're GUNS SAVE LIFE!
Oh, yeah. That prepaid card has been spent!
