NY or CT as a gun owner?

Been doing some research and I'm thinking about looking into living across the state line in CT.

Simply to save the pain of dealing with the laws in NY state and it seems like the CT laws are a bit more sane. CCW appears easier there also.

Given the choice which of the two states are a better option in regards to their gun laws?

CT, definately!

Having lived in NJ for 20 years, it was great to come back to America!

It's not the best - still has an AWB, some other pains, but much better than NY.

CT all the way dude.

Technically may-issue CCW, but practically shall-issue if you meet all the criteria.

We have two silly AW bans, but you can still get neutered EBR's (sans evil features like folding stocks and bayonet lugs), as well as some pre-ban (Sep 1994) off-list type of semi-auto firearms.

Full autos (no select fire, though), suppressors, AOW's, SBR's, and D.D.'s are cool in CT. Same goes for .50 BMG's.

We have de-facto registration of all store bought and sold guns, and some fairly stringent storage standards and if you even whisper mental illness to anyone, you could get your "privilege" to K&BA revoked in a heartbeat by the statpolizei.

But on balance, you're waaaaaay better off in CT vs. Noo Yawk.

Thanks for the info! Just need to look at the commute now and the markets in the possible areas.

Good to hear that the NE hasn't totally lost it's collective common sense.

Just hope I can make CT work for me rather than ny.

i don't know anything about ct, but manhattan gun laws are truly awful. still waiting for my "interview" to get my "premises" handgun license. there is no ccw unless you're absurdly wealthy.

Ohen, I live in CT and believe the gun laws are better than NYs. You can get a pistol permit but the downside is that you have to have one to have a pistol outside of your home. There is an assault rifle ban which bans bayonet lugs, flash hiders and folding stocks as well as certain rifles by name and or type.

There aren't a lot of public ranges but quite alot of private rod and gun clubs. That is where alot of people shoot.

The kicker is that anywhere close to NY is expensive to live in. Fairfield county is very pricey but then again so is NY around the city

I live in CT. It's not too bad, and overall is better than NY. We can have all NFA (SBR, SBS, MG-just no select fire, DD, AOW, silencer). If you have a pistol permit, hunting license, a .mil ID, LE ID you can buy a long gun without any waiting period. Until you get a permit (you should apply for a non-resident now, and do a change of address when you get here), get a hunting license (less than $20/year) to avoid the waiting period- even if you have no desire to hunt (the course is free). Most towns issue the temp state pistol permits without too much hassle. Ranges are pretty abundant (most are private clubs), but there are many with affordable dues.

NYS has a slightly more lax AWB, in some regards. They do allow 7.62x39 AK's and Colt brand AR-15's AFAIK. However, NYS bans post-94 high cap magazines. We can have all the post bans we want

Come to Connecticut, you'll be happier here.

For a liberal state, CT has NY beat.

The one downside to living in CT though, is that you won't even be able to bring a handgun into NYS.
