NY Senate Pick Also NRA Pick

This is actually pretty big: a pro-gun Democrat Senator coming out of New York. The more pro-gun Democrats, the less gun control becomes a party line issue. Certainly she sounds like a Western Democrat - more of a libertarian, from my read of her positions.

If she has staying power she may well be a big help to us for a long time, considering how young she is. She sounds smart and well connected, not to mention a great fund-raiser.

Man, here's to hoping.

Enough of the cute/ugly stuff, however. We should be above that kind of sandbox stuff here at THR.

I agree. Whenever a new female politician comes on the scene, there is always talk about her appearance. This was done with Sarah Palin. Whether you think she is pretty or ugly is unimportant to her politics. And by making comments about her physical appearance, you diminish her as a leader.

Even Republicans were doing this to Palin. Remember when Rush Windbag called Palin a "babe"? It takes her from being a serious politician to simply the inspiration for your next masturbatory session.

I was pleasantly surprised by her pick compared to the other names that had been floating around. When the news broke on my local radio station that she had been picked one of the few things they said about her was that she was supported by the NRA.
At least she comes from a family that hunts not like most of our major political canidates from NYC that have never had any exposure to hunting or fishing. People tend to overlook that a lot of NY State is still pretty rural when you get 50-100 miles away from NYC or the other large metropolitan areas.
I hope she does well.

All the other NY politicians are freaking out but this is really good news. A Democrat who is 100% with the NRA. So that is really good.

Instantly opening a rift among New York Democrats, Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand — a little-known, pro-gun Democrat from a rural Republican district — won appointment Friday to the Senate seat left vacant by Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Before the governor even took the podium to introduce Gillibrand, anti-gun crusader Rep. Carolyn McCarthy said she would challenge Gillibrand in the Democratic primary next year, or find someone who would. Gillibrand has a 100 percent voting record with the National Rifle Association.

Does anyone beside me think Paterson's pro-gun, pro-hunting senate choice had anything to do with New York's sportsmen going balistic over Paterson closing a pheasant game farm.

The governor did a quick 180 turn on his position after his office was flooded with thousands of letters and phone calls.

So many phone calls that I heard today they had to shut down the switchboard they were so overwhelmed.

Maybe he figured pheasants can't vote but sportsmen can.
