NY Times Is Going After Reloading

I think you missed my point, Slam. The NYT spoon feeds their spew to a lot of folks who take whatever they
print as gospel. There's obvious ignorant and negative slant, there, as well as downright factual errors.

Selfishness is primary focus of all these Corporation. The concentration of wealth, the concentration of power, has only increased since the great Recession. The small pittance that shooters and reloaders add to the over all GDP, is not enough to influence policy.
What has kept our guns in our hands is our Votes!

Unfortunately you are very correct. Most (maybe all) powder and primer manufacturers are tiny divisions within a brand inside a giant corporation. Even S&W(now AOBC), Colt, and Ruger are tiny in the grand scheme of things.

The left portrays the NRA as a huge lobbying organization with large amounts of cash spent every year on lobbying. This couldn't be further from the truth. The amounts spent by the NRA are around $1 to $2 million per year. UPS alone spends $8 million per year and big pharma spends $50M per year for example. The reason the NRA is one of the most powerful lobbying entities is because they can invigorate people and get voters to the polls.

Well, in states where ammunition purchases are regulated or require a permit, isn't that exactly why some people have gotten into reloading?

Recognize that in some states they may not be too far wrong. Search the Handloading/Reloading Forum on this very site to see numerous examples of people saying that they are getting into reloading to avoid government control of ammunition sales.

. . . . They related some of reloading to an anarchist lifestyle and an effort to evade gov't. control. . . . .
"Evade gov't control . . . " You say that like it's a bad thing. :p

Just a couple of points:
1. Are any of us really surprised that the NYT is going after reloading? I thought we all knew that was coming sooner or later.
2. I read the article a couple of days ago, but I was left with the impression that the NYT thinks reloading is a new thing.

I, too, was waiting for reloading to bubble up as a hobgoblin. I recall some time ago a failed attempt to popularize the idea of "Assault Pistols", thus demonizing them and lumping them in with other evil weapons.

The point is that when there is an assault on individual rights the process is gradual, incremental, and no aspect of such an assault can be accepted.

I used to think that some new gun laws might be a good idea. That was a long, long time ago and now my response to any such suggestion is a resounding "NO". "Not until" I continue, "I see clear evidence that existing laws are being enforced".

Anyway, I am a manufacturer and I see exactly how this sort of incrementalism could go down. If I were an anti, I'd go after shipping. Make ORMD = HazMat then continue playing with hazmat costs. Think ammunition prices were high a few years ago? That is nothing. Anyway, getting involved with the guts of this business has made me very very wary. All I can say is make damn sure you vote, not just in the midterms but in every election and check out the candidates. Also, since this is a political war, make sure that you and yours all have carry permits. Not to carry necessarily but as a statement. Same thing with hunting licenses. Get one.

Sorry for the rant but the complacency since Trump's election is deafening. Gun sales are down big time. Stores, at least here in FLA, are going out of business. The small ones are very hard hit. Outlets drying up is a sign of lack of interest. Lack of interest means an opportunity for restrictions to be floated.

Anyhoo, just remember to vote. You know they are.

This definitely bears repeating. Again. And again. And again . . .

Gee. They failed to mention it is "Green" to reuse and recycle ammunition. Good for those target shooters reduce, reuse, recycle. NYT plays to their own audience.

Much to do about nuttin'............
No, not even a little. There is a serious effort afoot in the UK to alter kitchen knives to not be dangerous. You can own a dozen guns in Cali and have a carry permit and there is still a waiting period.

Every crazy idea is a potential law. I am waiting for some well meaing legislaort to try to pass something to mandate a magazine for ammo over a certain amount.

Sorry, it always always always starts off as "nuttin".

The article is to get those who have already drank the kool-aid to be afraid of one more thing, to get in line to stamp their approval on the next got to control gun thing that the nattering nabobs say is a blight on the public safety.

When is the last time anyone here has heard of a shooting that involved a criminal using reloaded ammo?

I will say I like that my black powder arms are not registered! Though I aften wonder when black powder and caps will become regulated. :(

On the plus side, the article does acknowledge that competitive shooters often run through 1,000/month or more. Maybe they can remember that the next time Gov. Cuomo asks why anyone would need more ammo than their gun could hold.

Regarding the plastic gun scare, outlawing *geometry* is just insane! As to DIY weapons, I'd be more afraid of someone with a 12 gauge "zip gun" made from $10 waterpipe parts coming from Home Depot! :O

Good lord don’t let the nuns and liberal idiots get hold of this. They will be buying stock in the reloading companies next. Is there any way we could convince them to buy up a gajillion shares of Cobra and then watch as their money fades away into obscurity.

My local ABC affiliate recently televised a segment on the "dangers" of 80% receivers. I bet you will read a similar story in the NY Times in the near future.

"Mabel, did you know that there are nuts that shoot a gun 1000 TIMES A MONTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Voltaire said "To the wicked, everything serves as pretext"

There is a little dose of fear mongering as the gun smith says he has a solution to the plastic gun problem of it destroying it upon firing.
I`ll bet any one of us here could fix that problem. I for one have no fear that I will ever be harmed by reloaded ammo, a 3D printed gun or
some criminal who decided that it will be easier to buy an 80 % receiver and machine it himself to get his gun than to just go to one of his
criminal friends and buy one. Not one of the above mentioned gun related items will ever be a major factor in any crimes, but there are groups
who would like us to believe they will. I guess it is called fear mongering and it is a very weak argument at best, a distraction from the real goal.

Repetition is the key to selling something, a product, an idea.
The Times repeats repeats and repeats. You see it with their treatment of Trump (not political on my part, an observation) and with immigration and with gun issues. Always the same concepts repeated.

And what it is is not simply preaching to their, converted, audience. It is a way to normalize the concept. Where the hell did the idea of "Assault Weapons" come from? It was a pre-meme meme that was made a thing thru organized repetition.

The bottom line, the objective, is the demonization of all gun owners, probably even all weapons collectors --- knives too.

This is an oldie and you may have read it but look and learn what the end point of social engineering is. Yeah, it could happen here.

I've seen a few tv show episodes on police procedural shows where a nutjob sniper goof is reloading ammunition. Last one was several years ago. ON the positive side, an old NCIS show episode implied that Agent Gibbs reloaded when he was a sniper.

Re: the story about the English couple. There are a LOT of snowflakes in the U. K.!!

'OMG! I PUT A AMMO ROUND IN MY POCKET! '

And what the:oops: is a 2.2 mm. round? Is it British reporterese for .22RF? And machinegun round? :scrutiny:

Here in MA, BP arms are not regulated. However, you will need an FID or LTC to purchase black powder, primers, percussion caps, lead shot, muzzle loading bullets and lead round balls.
Empty brass is considered ammunition. Better have a license, and you better keep it under lock and key.:cuss:
