Is anyone on here familiar or experienced with the legal purchase/possession of an M1A rifle? My concern is with the flash hider and threaded barrel that makes this firearm illegal in "The People's Republic of New York?" At a recent gun show, I saw a SA M1A for sale that had on it a dummy flash hider that was being presented as "NYS compliant", but I was not 100% sure, I'd make it to my car without being arrested! I am not interested in the cut off barreled version, it is just too butt ugly for my taste. Thanks, I appreciate any help.

"If your firearm is semi automatic and has the ability to accept detatchable mag you can NOT have any of these features :
(I) A FOLDING OR TELESCOPING STOCK;
(II) A PISTOL GRIP THAT PROTRUDES CONSPICUOUSLY BENEATH THE ACTION OF
THE WEAPON;
(III) A THUMBHOLE STOCK;
(IV) A SECOND HANDGRIP OR A PROTRUDING GRIP THAT CAN BE HELD BY THE
NON-TRIGGER HAND;
(V) A BAYONET MOUNT;
(VI) A FLASH SUPPRESSOR, MUZZLE BREAK, MUZZLE COMPENSATOR, OR THREADED
BARREL DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE A FLASH SUPPRESSOR, MUZZLE BREAK, OR
MUZZLE COMPENSATOR;
(VII) A GRENADE LAUNCHER;

you can still get a M1a but before you took possession your ffl would have to weld the threads on the barrel so you cannot put anything on."

You have three options for NYS compliance. You can install a non-threaded barrel, but you already said you don't want that. I haven't seen this done.

You can pin/weld the flash hider so it can't be unscrewed, but then you can't take the gas system apart. I know someone who did this with one of their M1A rifles.

The above mentioned person took another of their rifles and welded the magazine in place and uses stripper clips to load.

The fact that you have a muzzle device attached to the semi makes it a no no. Pinned and welded makes no difference. I would think that fake pinned and welded would be the same. I have friends that have welded a bolt through the mag well of their AR's, but you wouldn't want to ruin an M1A by doing the same.
