Harry Reid slipped the administration a mickey!!! According to the article, Reid deliberately had the amendment inserted to keep the NRA out of the fight over Obamacare.

"...that amendment [Senate amendment 3276, Sec. 2716, part c. - added] says the government cannot collect 'any information relating to the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition.'"

Obamacare Amendment Forbids Gun and Ammo Registration

Obamacare, of all things, already prohibits the government from taking the steps it wanted to take to track gun and ammo ownership! AND OBAMA SIGNED IT INTO LAW!!!

I don't trust Harry Reid as far as I can throw him. We'll see fairly shortly if he really is 'friend'.

While I am not going to fault someone for doing something that appears to be beneficial, we need to look at this realistically:

FOPA already prevents the federal government from legally collecting information or creation and maintenance of a database. That means it is already Congressionally passed law that Federal government should not be storing or helping to create any such thing since 1986 outside of the scope of the NFA.

On the other hand if Congress was to vote some sort of registration in place then it it would replace any prior Congressionally passed law to the contrary.
You would not be any safer if something is double passed into law. It already was the law.

This should just remind doctors not to ask about firearm ownership as part of a questionaire or make a note of it.
It could also be important in keeping it from being criteria as part of health insurance, essentially making it unlawful for firearm ownership to have any influence on medical insurance rates or coverage.

Ugh... this again?

The provision in the AHCA *only* means that the government cannot collect information about firearms through their provision of healthcare _under_ the AHCA. In other words, a Doctor can no longer ask kids "Are there any firearms in your house?" and make any action on that disclosure.

This is not a protection again any registration process with the Federal Gub'ment that could be introduced in the current gun legislation discussion.

Context is important.

oh come on! as my layer told me many times,"it,s just a peice of paper". we have the bill of rights. how well is the government following that? your talking about a government that passed a defense of marriage act and turned right around and ok,ed same sex marriage! don,t pay attention to what comes out of their mouths or what they write and sign. watch what they DO. we have a government run by polls not the people.

"govenment by the polls, of the polls, for the polls.people? your kidding."
